Hurley</p><p>CURRICULAR OUTCOMES</p><p>The English 30-1 course will include subject content and activities such as reading, viewing, listening, and writing to enhance communication skills and the enjoyment of various literary forms. In English 30-1 Students will:</p><p>General Outcome 1 Explore thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences 1.1 Discover possibilities 1.2 Extend awareness General Outcome 2 Comprehend literature and other texts in oral, print, visual and multimedia forms, and respond personally, critically and creatively 2.1 Construct meaning from text and context 2.2 Understand and appreciate textual forms, elements and techniques 2.3 Respond to a variety of print and nonprint texts General Outcome 3 Manage ideas and information 3.1 Determine inquiry or research requirements 3.2 Follow a plan of inquiry General Outcome 4 Create oral, print, visual and multimedia texts, and enhance the clarity and artistry of communication 4.1 Develop and present a variety of print and nonprint texts 4.2 Improve thoughtfulness, effectiveness and correctness of communication</p><p>[email protected] 1 743-5800 ext. 159 ENGLISH 30-1 COURSE OUTLINE Miss R. Hurley</p><p>General Outcome 5 Respect, support and collaborate with others 5.1 Respect others and strengthen community 5.2 Work within a group</p><p>Course Description and Unit Outline</p><p>Prerequisite: 60% in English 20-1. This course is worth 5 credits.</p><p>EVALUATION</p><p>Students will be evaluated on assignments, class activities, quizzes, and tests. Students will have the opportunity to provide feedback and ideas for evaluating their progress throughout the semester. Marks will be on a cumulative basis per semester.</p><p>Classroom mark (Terms one and two) 50% Assignments 30 % Tests 17.5% Quizzes 2.5% + Final DIPLOMA Exam 50%</p><p>NOTE: The passing grade for this course is 50%. Students need at least 65% for acceptance in a post-secondary institution.</p><p>ATTENDANCE</p><p>Regular attendance is expected. A large proportion of the marks will be earned through work assigned and completed in class. We will determine our classroom rules and policies together and we will all work to ensure that they are enforced. We cannot do this if the following expectations are not followed.</p><p>1. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a mature manner. Courtesy is expected at all times to ensure a climate of mutual respect. 2. Students must be prepared for class by bringing all needed materials and by being on time. 3. Students are expected to hand in assigned work on time at the beginning of class. 4. Assignments missed due to absence will not be omitted from the calculation of your grade. If you have an excusable absence, you may have an extension. 5.
