<p>School Council Meeting - June 7, 2016 Attendance: Moneet Dogra, Shannon Carkner, Kelly Smith, Farhat Ahmad, April Zeleny, Adam Bell</p><p>New safe arrival system - Information (letter and magnet) will be sent out with report cards - Parents have 3 ways to report (web/app/phone) - A phone message is sent out to families who don't report an absence before school - Notifying the teacher in person or a written note is no longer adequate – must report to Safe Arrival system</p><p>Move-a-thon - Prize request letters were distributed - There was a desire to spend proceeds on outdoor equipment</p><p>New Fundraising Idea - Separate playground fundraiser - tied to Anniversary? - Community campaign - leverage the 50th as a campaign - Fundraising outside our school community? - Explore corporate connections / media - Names placed on benches as acknowledgement - April to investigate Board policy and Process - What are Board rules on corporate sponsorship & acknowledgement? - Celebrating 50 years... - Banner for the start of the year. - Could we aim for $50,000 - Shannon has offered to help lead the fundraising - Could a Fun Fair be connected to fundraising somehow?</p><p>Volunteer Recognition Assembly (June 22nd at 12:40) School Council members were thanked for their dedication to our school. </p><p>General Updates: EQAO – It is finished for another year. Students and staff worked very hard preparing.</p><p>Junior Spring Concert – May 19th - School Council members were very appreciative of the high skill level and variety of performances.</p><p>Welcome to Kindergarten – May 26th - Many new Kindergarten families came to explore Forest Glen </p><p>Wellness Day - June 24th - It's a play-day focused on Mental Health as part of our School Success goal - We work on exposing students to different activities (yoga, arts, games)</p><p>Graduation Ceremony- Tuesday June 28th Graduation trip Friday June 17th to North Beach Indoor Beach Volleyball - Cost is being subsidized by fundraising</p><p>Track & Field Meet - Friday June 3rd at Centennial Park in Etobicoke - At school event this Friday June 10th </p><p>Field Trips - Kindergarten went to Discovery Centre - Kindergarten will be hosting Yoga and Soccer Instructors - Grade 1 went to Black Creek Pioneer Village - Grade 1 hosted Scientists in the School - Grade 2 went to the Peel Water Festival - Grade 2 is going to the Toronto Zoo - Grade 3 went to Black Creek Pioneer Village - Grade 3 hosted Scientists in the School - Grade 3 currently attending Swim to Survive - Grade 4 went to Riverwood Conservancy - Grade 5 went to Crawford Lake - Grade 5 will be taking a Graduation Trip to Beach Volleyball</p><p>PRO Grant Application has been submitted. - Waiting for a response from the government </p><p>How can we increase the number of parent engagement at school council? - Maybe a targeted request to help for a specific purpose helps - We need some help with specific tasks - Maybe have parents come and then fill out nomination forms - Could school council table be at the Open House ? - Could school council table be at Welcome to Kindergarten? - Opportunity for more in-depth, first-hand information - School Council on classroom calendars </p><p>Next Meeting September 19th 2016</p>
