<p>Summer Reading Project Kilanowski, J.</p><p>I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot Men We Reaped by Jesmyn Ward</p><p>The aim of this project is to examine the role of these works of non-fiction in order to ascertain whether or not they achieve their purpose of giving voice to the voiceless.</p><p>Each group is responsible for completing all three tasks as well as coming up with a final summary statement. Groups are created so that each book has representation. Remember, there is no wrong answer to this project. Groups will be graded on their creativity and the strength of their arguments.</p><p>Rubric:</p><p>Task One: 25 Points</p><p>0-10: Students have not answered all questions or responses show lack of comprehension of the questions asked or responses show little effort </p><p>11-20: Students answer all questions asked and responses show comprehension of the questions asked</p><p>21-15: Students answer all questions and responses show comprehension of the questions asked and students answers show insight as well as effort and textual evidence to support assertions</p><p>Task Two: 25 Points</p><p>0-10: Students have not answered all questions or responses show lack of comprehension of the questions asked or responses show little effort </p><p>11-20: Students answer all questions asked and responses show comprehension of the questions asked</p><p>21-15: Students answer all questions and responses show comprehension of the questions asked and students answers show insight as well as effort and textual evidence to support assertions Task Three: 25 Points</p><p>0-10: Students have not created or found what was asked of them and did not speak about what was supposedly found or created</p><p>11-20: Students created or found what was asked of them and did speak of what they found or created</p><p>21-15: Students created or found something which demonstrates insight and creativity and spoke with authority about their creation or find</p><p>Final Summary Statement: 25 points</p><p>0-10: Students have not summarized or have not summarized in a coherent manner</p><p>11-20: Students have summarized the project</p><p>21-15: Students answer went above and beyond showing insight and textual evidence to support their assertion</p>
