<p>2016 AFT ANNUAL CONFERENCE In association with Sussex AFT Call for workshop proposals </p><p>Making waves: Diverse conversations by the sea</p><p>Thursday 15 September to Saturday 17 September 2016 at The Old Ship Hotel, Brighton seafront, Sussex, BN1 1NR</p><p>“Through our divergent thinking, we hope to make waves – waves that can both comfort and reassure, challenge and provoke.” Sussex AFT Committee</p><p>Brighton prides itself on being a vibrant, diverse and inclusive city, with a reputation for welcoming people from different walks of life. Systemic family psychotherapy has a strong tradition of respecting difference and making space for marginalised voices to be heard. </p><p>We welcome you to a conference by the sea that reflects and builds upon a willingness to embrace these themes. Here we can continue to develop our practice through creative and collaborative conversations, where new ideas can develop in the form of criticism and innovation, making waves through dialogue in our profession. We hope to explore issues of difference and diversity in all aspects of our work. We want to embrace the multiple meanings and numerous voices in our working contexts, including the tensions and the discomforts. We hope to recognise and affirm the specificity and individuality of families and of family therapy </p><p>We are delighted that a number of keynote speakers have confirmed they will attend and present at the conference. Speakers include: Karen Partridge, Jaakko Seikkula, Lennox Thomas, Imelda McCarthy, Gail Simon. However we envisage that the keynote presentations are for us as delegates to listen and learn. We are now calling for workshops that we see as an opportunity to work and do something as we learn. If you do not wish to present a workshop but would rather present a paper, please indicate on the form.</p><p>Facts about the workshops in Brighton.</p><p> We only have workshops on the Friday and Saturday, they will be of 1.5 hours or 1.25 hours (to be confirmed on acceptance), unless you request to present a paper of 20 minutes. </p><p> We would like you to think about how you can make the workshop interactive and how it links to practice.</p><p> We would ask you not to use power point or a DVD unless you are familiar with using these packages and computers. If you do wish to use IT please bring your own laptop with you and if an Apple Mac the cable to connect to the projector. </p><p> We will have flipchart and pens in each room.</p><p> The furniture in the rooms is not fixed and so chairs can be rearranged.</p><p> Please ensure that your workshop does fit the theme.</p><p> Please ensure that your workshop will address issues of diversity and equality</p><p> We will try to ensure that all workshops have a Chair to ensure that you have someone in the room to assist with any problems and to help you keep to time.</p><p>1  We would like to encourage people to submit a workshop that have not presented before, from diverse backgrounds and from abroad.
