WHY I PAINT? EIJA-LIISA LÖYTTYNIEMI</p><p>At the start of her career Eija-Liisa Löyttyniemi studied at Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. Since then she has participated in numerous Finnish exhibitions. She has also regularly held private exhibitions in her home country. Private showings of her work have been held in Sweden and Italy and her paintings have been acquired by many public collections. Löyttyniemi is a member of the Finnish Painters Union. In 2001-2003 she served as the chairwoman of the Nuutajärvi Glass Village (Urjala). Since the 1970’s Löyttyniemi has concentrated on oil painting. However, in recent years she has developed an original approach to the technique of palette knife. In the words of the artist: White sheet is like an void that needs to be filled and brought to live piece by piece, shade by shade. A finished work of art lives in an arrested time and place. It comes alive as I breathe life into it. We have been drawn to beauty throughout the ages. A painting can reflect one aspect of this longing. A painting can remind us that life is truly full of beauty and tenderness.
