Students will be learning mathematics from an inductive approach. Instead of receiving a lecture and examples, students will be led though an investigation where they will discover the mathematical rules and formulas for themselves. This course will be modified as appropriate to meet the needs of identified IEP, TAG, and 504 students. These modifications will take into account both the level and rate of learning for individual students.</p><p>Classroom & Behavioral Expectations My classroom expectation is to provide a safe and welcoming environment that encourages student learning and promotes mutual respect towards classmates. I expect students to try their best, regularly attend class, come prepared to learn, treat others with respect, and ask for help when needed. Student compliance of school rules is important to providing a safe learning environment. </p><p>Grading Grading will be weighted accordingly: A 90% - 100% 75% Unit Tests & Quizzes -- 25% Math Spiral & Homework B 80% - 89% All daily work will be kept in an interactive math spiral. Students are responsible C 70% - 79% for bringing their spiral to class with them every day. Homework will be D 60% - 69% completed in their spirals as well. Math is graded on a proficiency scale. This F Below 60% means that your student’s grade reflects their understanding of the math standards.</p><p>Progress Checks To regularly monitor your student’s grade, I encourage you to use the InTouch program located on the Houck Middle School website.
