To gain an understanding of points, segments, rays, and lines in a plane and also in three dimensions. 2. To study the types of angles and their relationship within a variety of polygonal regions. 3. To be able to calculate perimeters, areas, and other properties of a variety of polygonal regions. 4. To understand circles, their properties and relationships, including chords, diameter, radius, secant, tangent, central angles, inscribed angles, and arcs. 5. To be able to calculate volume and surface area for of cylinders, cones, and spheres. 6. To be able to perform various geometric constructions. 7. To be able to construct a geometric proof.</p><p>Prerequisite:  Math 0481 with a C or better (or one year of high-school elementary algebra) </p><p>Grading: A – 90-100% Note: Grades will be posted on the MyCOD web site. B – 80-89% C – 70-79% D – 60-69% There will be 4 one-hour tests plus the final exam. One of the tests other than the final exam can be dropped. As with the tests, the lowest quiz will be dropped. The breakdown is as follows:</p><p>· 3 Tests 23.3% each (lowest test is dropped) · Final Exam 30%</p><p>Quizzes: We will have in-class practice quizzes</p><p>Test Policy: Answers on tests without supporting work will not receive credit. The lowest test score will be dropped. There are NO MAKEUP EXAMS. The only exception to this is if without dropping one of the tests and including your quiz grade you are getting an “A”. If this is true, I will let you know that you do not need to take the final examination and will get an “A” for the course.</p><p>Course Policies: 1. Withdrawal: You may withdraw from class up to 8 calendar days following the midterm date without your instructor’s permission. Your decision must be made at that point to either continue with the class or withdraw. Permission to withdraw later than that date will only be given in extreme cases. 2. Cheating: Students caught cheating will receive a failing grade on their test. Additionally the student may be dropped from the course. Seating may be rearranged to minimize the possibility of cheating on tests. 3. Satisfactory/Fail options: If you plan to take this course for an S/F grade, it must be converted by midterm. A grade of “S” is equivalent to a grade of C or better. 4. Incompletes: Incomplete grades will only be given in cases of severe emergencies. 5. Attendance: Regular attendance is expected. Class will start promptly on time. Please arrive at class at the beginning and stay until dismissed. Arriving late and/or leaving early disrupts the class. I take attendance at a random time(s) during class. If you miss a class, you are expected to find out what material was covered. 6. Turn cell phones off during class. 7. PLEASE BE QUIET--do not talk when I am teaching material or answering a question. Pay attention and participate during classes. 8.
