<p> Application Packet for Admission to the Music Teacher Education Program </p><p>Any student enrolled at DePauw University who is pursuing a degree in Music Education through the School of Music may apply for admission to the Music Teacher Education Program (MTEP). Applications are typically submitted during the fourth semester of study and should be submitted to the Director of Music Teacher Education via email ([email protected]) no later than two semesters prior to student teaching. No student shall be recommended for certification without having been officially admitted to the Music Teacher Education Program. </p><p>Admission to Music Teacher Education Program </p><p>Students seeking admission to the MTEP are to provide the following: A two-part essay that includes: 1) a rationale for seeking entry into the program and a description of professional goals for your college career and 2) a reflection on the first three components of the Conceptual Framework: musicians, scholars, and communicators. A completed application form, which is available online. Four recommendations: one recommendation must be from the student’s advisor, one from another faculty member in Music Education, one from the professor of EDUC 222 (Developmental Theories in Education), and one from a faculty member who does not teach in Music Education. A portfolio demonstrating an emerging level of understanding of the ten InTASC model core teaching standards. Details regarding the completion of the portfolio can be found in the Portfolio Requirements document on the Music Teacher Education website. Passing scores on the Indiana CASA exam (Indiana Core Academic Skills Assessment). Conditional admittance may be granted if all other criteria are met. Final admission will be granted upon the receipt of passing CASA scores. </p><p>The Teacher Education Admissions Committee is responsible for granting admittance to the Music Teacher Education Program. This committee makes admittance decisions based on the submitted application, the InTASC portfolio, and the following criteria: Completion of EDUC 222, Developmental Theories in Education. Cumulative GPA of 2.5. Continuation in the MTEP and admission to student teaching are contingent upon maintaining a 2.5 GPA. Satisfactory academic potential (earning a C or higher in each course) within foundational courses (MUS 150/170, MUS 262, EDUC 222, Techniques and Diction courses). Grades of B or higher in applied music on primary instrument. Interpersonal skills and other characteristics essential for successful teaching, as measured through the disposition rubric. Passing scores on the Indiana CASA exam. Confirmed attendance at eight of the twelve required MTEP Professional Learning Community workshops.</p><p>Right of Appeal</p><p>The University respects the principles of due process. Students may appeal decisions denying them admission to or retention in the MTEP and recommendation for certification. See the Director of Music Teacher Education for appropriate procedures.
