<p> Robert R. Church Elementary School “Trailblazers for Success” Family Engagement Plan 2014-2015</p><p>Policy Statement Robert R. Church Elementary School recognizes the critical role that the home and family play in the development and academic achievement of students. Our Family Engagement Policy is an effort to build a long- range program of collaboration between the school and parents that will effectively support the school’s vision of providing a high-quality education for all students. The policy was developed jointly with parents and the school administration and staff. Robert R. Church Elementary School will create a family friendly school that encourages parent and family involvement in the following ways:  Post a Welcome to Our School sign at the front entrance of the school.  Provide a Parent Resource Room that is stocked with relevant materials and informational resources to browse while waiting to visit.  Consistently greet parents and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.  Conduct grade level parent conferences to provide grade specific information.  Respond to parent concerns in a timely and professional manner.  Involve parents and community stakeholders in the development of school compact, policies and parental involvement programs in an organized, ongoing, and timely way.  Provide opportunities for parents to evaluate school activities and offer suggestions about programs in a timely way.  Provide access to school telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.  Provide opportunities for parents to participate in professional development that’s available to staff and parents.</p><p>Robert R. Church Elementary School will build parents’ capacity for school involvement the following ways:</p><p> Offer flexible parent meetings to inform parents of school events and issues, student assessments and progress and opportunities for future training.  Invite and convene an annual meeting at flexible times to provide information about Title 1 requirements and allow feedback from parents.  Provide timely information and assistance in the interpretation and understanding of curriculum, academic assessment and student performance data.  Encourage participation in the School Leadership Council, PTA, and as Volunteer Readers, and rights to be involved.  Disseminate a monthly calendar and periodic newsletter to share information concerning school events and share helpful hints.  Utilize the Parent Resource Center to coordinate and integrate parent-training programs.  Conduct Family Math/Science and Literacy Night to increase parents’ ability to assist their children with their schoolwork.  Include parents in the development and revision of the Parent/School Compact and the Family Engagement Plan and provide copies of each for every household.  Distribute a student/parent handbook to each family that outlines school procedures and rules.</p><p>Parent’s name ______Child’s Name______</p><p>Teachers’ Name______Grade/ Section______Revised 07.22.14</p><p>Robert R. Church Elementary School administration, staff, parents, and students. </p><p>School’s Agreement I, the undersigned partner in the education of students at Robert R. Church Elementary School agree to the following:  Create and maintain a school climate that encourages and promotes high student achievement.  Provide a safe environment that allows for positive communication between the school, parent and student.  Provide a high quality curriculum and research-based instruction that will enable all students to meet state and district standards.  Inform parents frequently of the school’s progress toward meeting district and state performance goals.  Conduct flexible meetings to provide activities and strategies that parents can use to support student learning at home and school.  Conduct annual parent/teacher conferences to discuss student progress and/or interventions.  Provide parents reasonable access to staff, to volunteer, participate and observe their child’s class. Church Elementary at all times.  Establish a time and place for my child to study and complete homework assignments and provide needed guidance, feedback and support.  Encourage my child’s efforts and be available for questions.  Maintain contact with the school and my child’s teacher(s).  Obtain a library card for my child and encourage the checkout of useful resources.  Require my child to read at least fifteen minutes each night. Therefore, I agree to do the following:</p><p> Inform parents and students of academic expectations that are grade-level appropriate.  Provide high quality instruction that follows the Shelby County Schools curriculum guides.  Employ a variety of instructional strategies and best practices so that all students will achieve at high levels and meet the standards set forth by the district.  Provide meaningful homework assignments that reinforce skills/concepts taught in the classroom.  Use Parent Link, weekly folders, school calendars, and newsletters to inform parents and students of homework assignments and school activities.  Provide timely assistance to parents so that they may assist their child with homework assignments.  Keep parents informed about their child’s progress through parent/teacher conferences, progress reports, phone calls, and weekly folders.  Provide a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and engages every student in developmentally appropriate learning activities.
