<p>Grade Level: First Grade – sixth six weeks</p><p>Organizing Idea: Communication: Making Connections Title/Subject: Click, Clack, Moo – Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin Time Frame: 30 - 45 minutes – possibly 2 class periods</p><p>Objectives: Students can use text and illustrations to identify main ideas, make inferences, and learn new vocabulary.</p><p>TEKS: LA1.12 The student is expected to: (F) make and explain inferences from texts such as determining important ideas and causes and effects, making predictions, and drawing conclusions. LA1.14 The student is expected to: (B) understand simple story structure. LA1.15 The student is expected to: (A) identify relevant questions for inquiry. LA1.15 The student is expected to: (C) draw conclusions from information gathered. Materials: Click, Clack, Moo, Cows that Type, and a whiteboard</p><p>Procedures: 1) Discuss what the word vocabulary means – words used in a story. 2) Write the following vocabulary words on the board: strike, type, demand, neutral party, ultimatum, emergency, exchange. Ask if anyone knows the meaning of any of these words before you read the story. 3) As you read the story, have students raise their hands as you come to the words. Explain what the word means in the story. 4) After reading the story, ask students what they think the main idea of the story would be. What was the story about? 5) Write the following on the board:</p><p>Animal Request Why Cows electric blankets Hens electric blankets Duck diving board</p><p>6) Tell students that the author didn’t really tell us why the cows, hens, and duck requested these items. We need to infer, or figure out, why. The students should answer that the cows and hens wanted the blankets because they were cold, and the duck wanted the diving board because the ducks were bored.</p><p>Evaluation: Students can give examples from the story that make Berlioz fiction.
