Fiction Book Talk English 9H

Your Book Talk presentation date is ______. When practicing at home, time your Talk; it should be 4 - 6 minutes.

Hook listeners – grab our attention and make us want to read it! Tell us the title, author, when it was first published; show the book in class Give a concise summary of the plot; tell just enough to entice fellow students to read it {exposition, rising action, and just a bit of the climax - but don’t tell exactly what happened in climax} Read a selected passage (paragraph or two) and tell why you selected that passage. The passage should strongly reflect a literary element, such as characterization, theme, setting, plot, foreshadowing, conflict, diction, etc. Pick out at least 4 literary terms from the ones we’ve studied in class and discuss their use in your book, providing examples as needed (imagery, personification, figurative language, mood, irony, tone, diction, characterization, theme, etc.) (This is separate from preceding bullet point.) List the 4 terms on the rubric below before your talk. Share what you liked about the book Talk about connections you have been able to make between the book and your life, the world, other books you’ve read etc. Weave into your talk interesting facts about the author (and the book if you can) Anticipate and answer questions about the book from your teacher and classmates Speak comfortably and enthusiastically (you must practice at home; it will be evident that you have or haven’t done this).

Use the following grading rubric to plan your Talk.
