Torrez March 17, 2011 Phone: (559) 934- 2132</p><p>West Hills College Student Wins California Workforce Association Scholarship</p><p>Iduvina Chavez, a West Hills College Coalinga/Workforce Connection All Youth One System student, was one of three recipients who were awarded the Dwight Brydie Scholarship by the California Workforce Association.</p><p>Established in honor of Byrdie, a longstanding employee of the Employee Development Department who was a committed and passionate advocate for youth, the scholarships were funded by the Los Angeles City Workforce Board and San Diego State University Interwork Institute/Talent Know No Limits. </p><p>“Many of our students have barriers that they need to overcome in order to become successful in life,” said Ana Sanchez, senior employment readiness specialist at Workforce Connection One Stop. “The All Youth One System is here to provide support, encouragement and opportunities for these students to be exposed to resources that could be used as a stepping stone to their success.”</p><p>Chavez and the other students attended the CWA Annual Youth Conference luncheon in January in Long Beach where they were honored.</p><p>The Workforce Connection All Youth One System is one of Fresno County’s five locations that serves ages 14 to 21 along the pathway to education, training, personal development and ultimately, a rewarding career. The Workforce Connection All Youth One System serves the communities of Coalinga, Mendota, Kerman, Huron, Firebaugh, Tranquillity and Riverdale. </p><p>West Hills College and the Workforce Connection All Youth One System have sponsored four students who have won the Dwight Brydie Scholarship including Laura Montano and Rodolfo Rodriguez, Coalinga High School graduates; Yvette Dominquez, a Mendota High School graduate and this year’s recipient Iduvina Chavez who graduated from Washington High School.</p><p>To learn more about West Hills College Coalinga and Workforce Connection All Youth One System and the services they offer, call Robert Pimentel, WIA Coordinator, at (559) 935-7886. </p><p>###</p>
