<p> TRANSPORTATION SERVICES Motor Vehicle Division</p><p>MISSION STATEMENT</p><p>To maintain in a safe and cost efficient manner the City fleet, Transit fleet, and communications equipment. In addition to equipment repairs and servicing, we will provide equipment specification writing, purchasing, and the disposal of retired equipment. These services are provided professionally and at a cost competitive to local businesses. We will conduct ourselves in a professional manner and treat our customers respectfully at all times. The safety of our staff and that of our customers will always be of the highest priority.</p><p>ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT</p><p>The City of Everett, Motor Vehicle Division, will</p><p> Test and purchase cleaning products that are less harmful to the environment and are cost effective  Perform a cost analysis on the purchase of hybrid vehicles  Test and evaluate new vehicle products for equipment (like idle reduction technologies) that will reduce fuel consumption  Use alternative fuels (electric, biofuels) that reduce oil consumption and provide a dependable fuel supply and substitute to diesel fuel  Review service intervals to extend intervals to reduce oil consumption  Encourage the purchase of equipment that can be used for multiple uses, to increase usage and decrease the number of vehicles within the fleet  Be an active member in organizations that work to improve our environment and reduce our consumption of non-renewable energy.</p><p>Below is a list of the City’s past, present and future environmental goals.</p><p>PAST  Received a grant to start using ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) two years before it became a Federal requirement in July, 2006.  Use recycled oil in City vehicle. Uses four times less crude oil.  Use recycled antifreeze in City vehicles. Use ten times less new antifreeze.  Number of fleet equipment has not increased over 1% in past five years.  Fleet fuel consumption in gallons of fuel used has remained constant over last five years.  Received a 2006 grant to install oxidation exhaust catalyst on 49 of our diesel vehicles, reducing exhaust emissions by up to 50%. Project will be completed in 2007.</p><p>D:\Docs\2017-12-11\03636064530de4fbfc9df5b7a70971f8.doc 1/18/2018 arm  In 2005 converted all shop electric heaters to gas and added programmed timers to increase efficiencies.  All shop lights are being replaced in 2007 with lights that are brighter and consume 50% less electricity with 50% of cost being paid for by PUD.</p><p>PRESENT  Using environmental products to clean parts and shop floor.  Monitor underutilized equipment and move or sell equipment that cannot be justified.  50% of the tires we purchase are recapped (can be recapped up to 3 times), reducing our cost and the amount of oil used to produce a new tire.  Recycle all used tires instead of sending them to landfills.  Use recycled rubber trailer decking, reducing the harvesting of our forests.  Recycle batteries, old batteries are recycled to new.  Extend City equipment oil change intervals from 3,000 miles to 6,000 miles – a savings of hundreds of gallons of oil annually.  The City operates several hybrid vehicles.  MVD participants in the City’s recycling of all paper products  85% of MVD paper products purchased are from recycled paper.</p><p>FUTURE  Direct up to 1% of MVD’s M&O budget toward the purchase of environmental products and programs that improve our environment.  Purchase hybrid vehicles whenever possible.  Add to all equipment bids the requirement to install an idle reduction system.  Apply for grants to purchase a hybrid electric/diesel bus.  In 2007, the City will begin two pilot programs using biodiesel.  Continue with memberships in organizations that promote environmental advancements  Clean Cities Coalition  Hybrid Truck Users Collaborative  Continue to review equipment service intervals and oil usage to increase intervals and decrease oil usage.</p><p>D:\Docs\2017-12-11\03636064530de4fbfc9df5b7a70971f8.doc 1/18/2018 arm</p>
