M.A. Pitts 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\gm\24133sd08.doc 11 Companion/Similar bill(s): 4873 12 13 Introduced in the House on March 25, 2008 14 Adopted by the House on March 25, 2008 15 16 Summary: Cambridge Academy Bowling Team 17 18 19 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 20 21 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 22 3/25/2008 House Introduced and adopted HJ-31 23 24 25 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 26 27 3/25/2008 28 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE INITIATIVE OF THE 12 MEMBERS OF THE CAMBRIDGE ACADEMY VARSITY 13 BOWLING TEAM, OF GREENWOOD COUNTY, AND TO 14 CONGRATULATE THE BOWLERS AND THEIR COACH FOR 15 A SUCCESSFUL SEASON AND FOR TAKING THE 2008 16 SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT 17 SCHOOLS (SCISA) CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE. 18 19 Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was 20 pleased to learn that, in the inaugural year of the SCISA varsity 21 bowling championship, Cambridge Academy, in Greenwood 22 County, captured the title; and 23 24 Whereas, students of Cambridge Academy led in the formation of 25 a high school bowling league in Greenwood with one other school 26 during the 2006-2007 season; and 27 28 Whereas, in the 2007-2008 season, the league expanded to include 29 six teams, and SCISA approved bowling as a varsity sport; and 30 31 Whereas, from the first to the second season of play, the 32 Cambridge Academy Cougars improved their individual game 33 averages by forty percent; and 34 35 Whereas, Cambridge, a Class A school, competed in matches 36 against other SCISA schools, regardless of size classification; and 37 38 Whereas, the matches consisted of the total pin fall of three Baker 39 games. In a Baker game, five bowlers each bowl two frames with 40 the first bowling the first and fifth frames, the second bowling the 41 second and sixth frames, and so on, so that the fifth bowler has the 42 potential to bowl the most frames; and</p><p>1 [4874] 1 1 2 Whereas, in the first state match, consisting of three such Baker 3 games, the young Cambridge team raised its Baker series average 4 from 360 in the regular season to 445 to defeat West Columbia’s 5 Glenforest Bulldogs who scored 372 and Columbia’s Heathwood 6 Hall Highlanders who scored 300; and 7 8 Whereas, Nick Bachinski, John Isenhower, Brett Kelly, Joshua 9 Kelly, and Jonny Masters bowled for the first Baker game of the 10 title match. Sam Hunley bowled the first position in the final two 11 Baker games while the other four remained in their positions. Also 12 on the team are Evan Gottesman and Bass Willard; and 13 14 Whereas, the Cougar’s fifth position bowler Jonny Masters closed 15 seven of his possible 12 frames with either a strike or a spare, 16 while Joshua Kelly and John Isenhower each closed four of their 17 six frames to secure the championship; and 18 19 Whereas, Coach Lynn Isenhower used her skill, encouragement, 20 and experience to forge a championship team in the first season of 21 a state competition; and 22 23 Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives would like 24 to honor the enterprise and success of the Cambridge Academy 25 bowling team. Now, therefore, 26 27 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 28 29 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 30 by this resolution, recognize and commend the initiative of the 31 members of the Cambridge Academy varsity bowling team, of 32 Greenwood County, and congratulate the bowlers and their coach 33 for a successful season and for taking the 2008 South Carolina 34 Association of Independent Schools (SCISA) Championship title. 35 36 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 37 Cambridge Academy Headmaster Donald Frazier and Coach Lynn 38 Isenhower. 39 ----XX---- 40</p><p>1 [4874] 2</p>
