Cunningham.”

OTHER WRITING COURSES TO WHICH YOU WILL APPLY THIS TERM

To Apply: Write a sample daily theme as described below.

Describe a specific scene or event from two different points of view. Think about what can be seen (and what can’t) from each perspective. Try to not go with the most obvious—parent and child, for instance. Define the perspectives of the two people, locating each one in a specific place that affects his or her point of view, and convey each response to the scene through the details you include. Use clear, vivid, concrete details. Don’t write from the perspective of inanimate objects or animals. Write two separate paragraphs, one from each point of view. 150-200 words each, 400 words maximum.

Please staple a hard copy of your application form and writing sample together and submit them to Jane Bordiere in the English Department office, LC 107, or to the English Department drop-box outside LC 109. (Email applications will not be accepted.) Students who are accepted or placed on the wait list will receive an email by Monday, December 18, 2017. Please note that attendance at the first lecture is required, whether you're on the acceptance or wait list (wait-listed students are often admitted). If you are admitted to the class, and plan not to take it after all, please let me know as soon as possible ([email protected]) so that I may give your spot to a student on the wait list. After that first lecture, I'll assign the places of students not present at the first class to others on the wait list.

Thank you. SAMPLE THEME:
