<p> 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE 12 MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF 13 REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF DR. CHARLES 14 SCHLEY AIMAR, SR., OF BEAUFORT AND TO EXTEND 15 THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY 16 FRIENDS. 17 18 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 19 Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dr. 20 Charles Schley Aimar, Sr., of Beaufort on June 7, 2012, at the 21 venerable age of eightyseven; and 22 23 Whereas, born the son of Eugenie Vivian Toomer and William 24 Washington Aimar, Charles Schley Aimar entered this world on 25 November 12, 1924, in Savannah, Georgia; and 26 27 Whereas, the young Charles attended Clemson College, leaving to 28 join the United States Marine Corps during World War II and 29 serving with the Fifth Marine Division. He was a recipient of the 30 Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the first wave of assault 31 on Iwo Jima, was a China Marine, and served during the 32 occupation of Japan. After his honorable discharge from the 33 service, he completed his degree at the University of South 34 Carolina School of Pharmacy; and 35 36 Whereas, in 1951, he returned to Beaufort to open Aimar’s 37 Pharmacy, where he continued to practice until 2008; and 38 39 Whereas, strongly believing in active community involvement, Dr. 40 Aimar was a member of many organizations, including the 41 Huguenot Society of South Carolina, South Carolina Coastal 42 Council Board, City of Beaufort Board of Architectural Review,</p><p>[5417] 1 1 Sons of Confederate Veterans, Jean Ribaut Society, Sertoma Club, 2 Beaufort Rotary Club, and South Carolina Historical Society. He 3 was also an officer of the Thomas Heyward Chapter of the Sons of 4 the American Revolution and a cofounder of the Heritage Society 5 of Beaufort, Beaufort County Republican Party, and Beaufort 6 Academy, as well as a trustee of Beaufort College and Beaufort 7 Memorial Hospital; and 8 9 Whereas, in addition, he was a member of the Beaufort Volunteer 10 Fire Department, former president of the South Carolina 11 Independent School Association, and former member of Beaufort 12 City Council. He was twice president of the Beaufort Chamber of 13 Commerce and was a former president of the South Atlantic Yacht 14 Racing Association; and 15 16 Whereas, a man of faith, Dr. Aimar was a longtime member of 17 First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort, where he served as elder, 18 deacon, and Sunday School teacher. This true servant of the Lord 19 also served as trustee for Stoney Creek Independent Presbyterian 20 Chapel of Prince William Parish. At the time of his death, he was 21 attending the Parish Church of St. Helena; and 22 23 Whereas, he leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Sarah 24 Jeanne Sams Aimar; his children, Jeanne Aimar Rogers, Priscilla 25 Aimar Trask, Pamela Aimar Kinsey, Amelie Aimar Cromer, and 26 Charles Schley Aimar, Jr.; eleven grandchildren; six 27 greatgrandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Dr. 28 Aimar was devoted to the Beaufort community, his family, and his 29 friends and will be greatly missed by all who had the high 30 privilege of knowing him. Now, therefore, 31 32 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 33 34 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 35 by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of 36 Dr. Charles Schley Aimar, Sr., of Beaufort and extend the deepest 37 sympathy to his family and many friends. 38 39 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 40 Mrs. Sarah Jeanne Sams Aimar for the family. 41 XX 42</p><p>[5417] 2</p>
