<p> American Canyon Integrated Water Management Plan</p><p>INTEGRATED PLANNING The City of American Canyon, as the local public agency and water purveyor, is the principle steward for local and regional water resources. In accord with the California Integrated Regional Water Management Planning Act (2002) the City has determined that the preparation of an Integrated Water Management Plan (IWMP) is crucial to the proper assessment of its water resources for the long-term sustainability of the City’s water supplies. </p><p>The City understands that sustainability of its water resources requires a broad understanding of the interrelated physical, chemical, biological, and human processes. The City provides resource planning that acknowledges that all of these factors influence the quantity and quality of available water supplies</p><p>THE BIGGER PICTURE The City’s Mission Statement embodies several strategic goals of the IWMP planning process:  To ensure a self-reliant, sustainable Community,  To act in the most cost-effective manner possible,  To ensure a well-informed and involved citizenry,  To make its government as open and as accessible as possible.</p><p>Facilitating this process, the City has selected the team of RBF Consulting to provide the technical resources to assist in implementing the IWMP. The City has commissioned a Blue Ribbon Panel with members including elected and appointed officials, City residents, property owners inside and outside the city, partner agencies, and a retired water professional to provide overall guidance in the development of this process. </p><p>The City of American Canyon views its role in this process as one of a caretaker of its resources. The Integrated Water Management Plan will inform the City’s policies in seeking an appropriate balance between resources needs, financial sustainability and environmental protection for the enjoyment of future generations.</p><p>THE IWMP PROCESS As a process, the IWMP recognizes the relationships of water supplies to the environment and the impact of man. Based on these interconnections, the City will analyze potential water supply alternative components to identify projects that yield multiple benefits for water supplies, water quality, and natural resources.</p><p>The IWMP will analyze all of the City’s available water resources and identify opportunities that best enhance and protect our environment, meet the water needs of our residents, visitors, businesses/ industries and provide for the planned future growth of the South Napa community. Meeting the City’s current needs is only a small piece of the IWMP. The City is committed to maintaining the balance between its financial and environmental responsibilities. The IWMP will address the inter-relationship between the following resource categories:</p><p> Water Supply Availability and Treatment Requirements,  Wastewater Treatment, Discharge Requirements and Water Recycling Opportunities  Flood Control, Storm Water Quality and Treatment Requirements,  Groundwater Supplies, and  Riparian Habitat Preservation and Enhancement. </p><p>As a participating member of the Watershed Information Center & Conservancy of Napa County (WICC), information on the activities of this project will be made available on the Internet at www.napawatersheds.org </p>
