<p> Policy Research Symposium</p><p>Research in Colleges: Challenges and Opportunities</p><p>30 September 2015 9:00 am – 2:00pm, OISE Library 252 Bloor Street West, OISE, Ground Floor Library</p><p>The Higher Education group at OISE, the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, and the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario are organising a Higher Education policy symposium on research in colleges.</p><p>This Symposium will explore the development of research in colleges in Canada, Australia and England. It will enable institutional leaders and practitioners, policy makers, funding bodies and government agencies to share experiences and learn from each other about how to develop and implement applied research. Each panel will consist of speakers from Canada, Australia and England. 8:45 Coffee 9:00-9:15 Welcome and Introduction 9:15 - 11:00 Panel 1: Practices of Applied Research Across Jurisdictions  Chair: Linda Franklin (President, Colleges Ontario)  Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes (President, Georgian College) The function of applied research in Ontario colleges and communities: An economic imperative  Dr. Richard Wiggers (Director, Research, HEQCO) Some challenges facing colleges in undertaking research  Dr. John Lea (Director, College HE Scholarships Program, Association of Colleges, UK) The significance of developing student scholarly activity in college higher education  Jodie Schmidt (CEO, TAFE, Queensland, Australia) TAFE Queensland and applied research: Partnering for real world solutions</p><p>11:00 – 11:30 Coffee Break</p><p>11:30 – 1:15 Panel 2: Challenges and potential of applied research in colleges</p><p> Chair: Paul Brennan (VP International Partnerships, Colleges and Institutes Canada)  Mary Butler (VP, College and Community Development, New Brunswick Community College) Establishing an office and building a culture for research and innovation at NBCC  Dr. Otte Rosenkrantz (Chair, Research Ethics Board, Fanshawe College) Building a culture of research in the college  Norman Gray, AM (CEO, Box Hill Institute Group, Australia) (Title TBC)  Stella Mbubaegbu, CBE (Principal, Highbury College, UK) (Title TBC)</p><p>1:15-2:00 Lunch and Networking</p><p>Attendance at the seminar is free, but space is limited.
