Supplemental material

The supplemental materials consist of two editable files for computer-aided design of Samsung Galaxy S5 tripod mounts for: 1) the phone alone (Galaxy S5 Mount.skp) and 2) the phone in a protective case (Galaxy S5+case.skp). Also included are the corresponding stereolithography files (.stl) for three- dimensional printing of the mounts. All four files can be opened and manipulated using the freely available program SketchUp (http://www.sketchup.com/).

The supplemental materials also include A Supplemental Table, two Supplemental Figures, and their associated legends (see below): Supplemental Tables

Supplemental Table 1. Supplemental Figures

Supplemental Figure 1. Vital staining of CBC-1 grown in various conditions. (A) CBC-1 cells revived from frozen stocks and grown in rich medium at pH 7 (YPD-pH7) were nearly all viable as judged by methylene blue staining. (B-C) Dry CBC-1 was rehydrated and (B) either immediately stained with methylene blue to determine the percentage of live cells or (C) exposed to Cauldron for 2 weeks during bottle conditioning before harvesting from bottles and methylene blue staining. (D-H) CBC-1 cells revived from frozen stocks were also grown in YPD medium at decreasing pH to determine the effects of increasing [lactic acid] on viability. Methylene blue staining at pH <4 was not as effective as at higher pH, so apparent viability is reported for C, G, and H. The magnification in all micrographs is 800x. Supplemental Figure 2. The effects of lactic acid and EtOH on CBC-1 growth. Strain CBC-1 was grown to saturation overnight with aeration in YPD medium and back diluted into YPD medium lacking lactic acid

(pH 7) or lacking lactic acid but supplemented with 8% EtOH (pH 7 + EtOH), as well as YPD medium acidified with lactic acid to pH 3 and 2.5 in the absence and presence of 8% EtOH. The cells were then incubated without aeration, and their growth was monitored by pipetting the cells into suspension and

measuring the OD660. At pH 7 and 3, EtOH increased the lag phase of growth. It also decreased the doubling time of the cells grown in YPD-pH3 medium. At pH 2.5, no growth was evident. All experiments were performed ≥3 times on biological replicates, and data plotted as growth curves are the averages with the standard deviation as the error bars.
