The Board’s Hiring Committee, after reviewing over 40 applications and interviewing 6 people, has selected Chad Bradt (pronounced “brot”). He is a Firefighter II, a Paramedic and a certified firefighter/EMT trainer and hazmat technician. His previous position was Assistant Chief of Alachua County Fire and Rescue, and he has lived in Florida since 1972. Chief Bradt’s wife, Christy, is a Registered Nurse. She currently works for a surgeon at North Florida Regional Hospital, and she plans to find employment near LGI. The couple has two ten- year-old dogs: Alfonzo (a Yorkie) and Scooter (a dachshund) who will be joining them on the island. Chad and Christy both enjoy fishing and boating and are looking forward to meeting their island neighbors. They are living at 654 Jolly Roger Trail. Chief Bradt is on the island most of the time now, and LGIFR plans to have a professional Firefighter/EMT on duty on the island 24/7 within the next 30 days. The next meeting of LGIFR will be held on June 5. Check the website www.lgifrinc.com for time and place. LGIFR needs to borrow a golf cart for Chief Bradt to use for the month of June. If you can loan a cart, please contact LGIFR Board Chairman, Fred Baruth, at [email protected].

Eldred’s Marina will provide a free parking space and boat slip for our new Chief, who has his own boat. The LGI community is grateful to the Dixon family for this very generous donation. Tarpon Realty handles the rental of the house where the Bradts are living, and has generously waived the commission on the rental. Thanks to David Haynes for arranging this.

LGPOA held its annual meeting on April 24th. Current Board Members in Districts 2, 4, 6, and 8 were unopposed and automatically re-elected. Membership stands at 266, with $17,000 in the Treasury. Pede Fraser reported that plans are being made for the Second Annual Labor Day Weekend Fishing Tournament, and a July 4th parade. No date has been set for the next LGPOA meeting.

Be a part of your future! Be an LGPOA member! The LGI Advisory Committee met on April 9. It was reported that the County Comprehensive Plan revisions are again stalled, so our new zoning ordinance may not be in place until 2011. The DEP and the Dock Committee have not met since the DEP cancelled the meeting that was scheduled for March 19th. The Committee still hopes that an accommodation can be reached with DEP that will ensure that docks in place can remain and new docks built as needed, but the Committee will propose special legislation if no accommodation is reached with DEP. There will be no Advisory Committee meetings in May or June.

The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico: If you have not already made note of it from the May 5th Special Edition, here again is a link to the DEP website with up-to-date information about the oil spill and the attempts to contain it: http://www.dep.state.fl.us/deepwaterhorizon/default.htm

LGPOA Board members: David Haynes, President, representing District 3: [email protected] Tom McCoy, Vice President, representing District 8: [email protected] Paul Holmes, Treasurer, representing District 7: [email protected] Sharon Belcher, Secretary, representing District 4: [email protected] Phyllis NeSmith, representing District 1: [email protected] Brenda Lovell, representing District 6: [email protected] Cindi Farmer, representing District 5: [email protected] Ginger Reeves, representing District 2: [email protected]

Be a part of your future!
