ROV Task List

ROV Task List

ROV task List 1. Design the winch system to lower and raise a weight equal to the weight of the probe using ribbon cable. Deliverable: a. Successful testing of raising and lowering a weight using R/C radio

2. Design a method for attaching the pulley-end of the ribbon wire to a standard connector mounted on the pulley (to plug into slip ring connector). Deliverable: a. Successful testing of a quick-connect and disconnect mechanism.

3. Design a quick-connect method of attaching the probe-end of the ribbon wire to the probe using a standard connector. The connector is to be sealed from the lake water. Water must not leak into the probe. A balanced probe must remain upright when hanged by the connection. Deliverables: a. Successful design review and successful testing.

4. Design of the probe itself. The probe is to weight enough to sink, must incorporate temp, PH, light, and pressure sensors. It must have a sealed water sample chamber with solenoid valve opening. Design the R/C inputs to open and close solenoid valve. The probe is to be weight balanced with and without water sample to remain upright when hanging from ribbon wire. Deliverable: a. Successful design review and testing for balance and water sample collection.

5. Design a method for sending and picking up signals from the boat into the rotating end of the ribbon wire (Slip Ring). I am working on this with Bryan Kappa. Deliverable: a. Successful testing Assemble, and test all mechanical boat and probe systems. Trouble shoot if necessary. 6. Make necessary connections and design interfaces between sensor voltages and the data logger to collect the sensing signals. Deliverables: a. Design review and presentation b. Successful testing

7. Make necessary interfaces and connections between on-boat mote transmitter and the data logger. Verify the reception of signals by on-computer mote receiver. Deliverables: a. Design review and presentation b. Successful testing

8. Write programs to convert received signals into physical sensing information and display the results as required by Ken. a. Design review and presentation b. Successful testing Paint the boat and final testing Get drunk (I’ll buy the beer)
