Fahrenheit 451 Mandala

How do various characters &events change Montag from the beginning of the book to the end of the novel?

In Sanskrit, mandala means “circle”; it’s also a symbol in a dream, representing the dreamer's search for completeness and self-unity. Mandalas can be created by individuals to symbolize their journeys through life, they can also tell a story of where an individual has been. In some cases they will reveal the individual's path in life.

You are going to create a mandala that represents Montag’s journey in the novel.

1. Using your “Changes in Montag” sheet, you are going to create a visual representation of the events/characters you believe most impacted his metamorphosis from who he was at the beginning of the book to who he became at the end of the story.

2. Use one “window” in the mandala per event/character to visually represent the steps to his changes. Use the quotes you selected to create this image. You may use all three quotes if you wish.

3. On the outside of the windows write out the name of the character/event and a quote that epitomizes (is the best) for that influence and compliments the illustration.

4. The middle of the mandala is where you will represent who Montag is at the end of the book as a result of all of these influences. This task will require you to really analyze who he has become.
