<p> The General Design of the M.A. Program in Higher Education¹ Concentration in Student Affairs Center for the Study of Higher Education</p><p>Overview: The student and student’s advisor design the program.² The minimum credit requirement is 36 semester hours of which not more than six credits may be transferred in from other institutions. Not less than 12 credits must be earned on the University campus in Tucson (i.e., some coursework may be taken at other locations where University of Arizona courses are offered). All work applied to the degree must be completed with 6 years, with some latitude possible by petition to the Graduate College.</p><p>Research Methods Course A research methods course taken in any University unit</p><p>H igher Education Courses (usually at least 18 credits) Required: H ED 601 Higher Education in the United States H ED 608 The College Student H ED 609 Organization and Administration of Higher Education H ED 617 Student Personnel Services H ED 696c Capstone: Contemporary Issues in Student Affairs H ED 693 Internship</p><p>Courses in the Concentration or “major” From 6 to 15 credits or more</p><p>Electives From 0 to 9 credits or more</p><p>Outside the College of Education 6 credits, minimum unless approved otherwise by the student’s advisor</p><p>Comprehensive Examination (no credit) A final examination is required of all students. For students not electing the thesis option, the examination consists of the course content of H ED 601 and the student’s area of concentration. A third course-associated area is selected by the advisor in consultation with the student. Note that registration is required in the term (Fall, Spring) when the comprehensive examination is taken. </p><p>¹Students should consult the Graduate College web site (http://grad.arizona.edu/academics/program-requirements/masters-degrees) for additional University requirements.</p><p>²The HED Director approves the program after it is approved by the advisor. The Director’s role is to insure that University and Center policies and practices are adhered to.</p>
