<p>Westmont College Student Association Meeting Minutes September 11, 2012</p><p>Present: Kristin Lo, President, Michelle Marinone, Vice President, Zachary Smith, Business Manager, Lillian Yamase Multi-Cultural Representative, Lauren Burson, Office Administrator, Rachel Hatcher, Clubs Administrator, Joe Sidebotham, Senior President, Nicole Grabe, Junior President, Julianna Carlson, Sophomore President, Angela D’Amour, WCSA Advisor.</p><p>Meeting began at 8:15 p.m.</p><p>1. Prayer</p><p>2. Lightning Round</p><p>3. Voting Registration  Survey results o Around 200 respondents o A lot of people feel not very prepared for the upcoming election o Most people want to learn more o 71% were registered to vote o Each year fairly well-represented  Assignments in preparation for the week of September 24 o Library: Sept 24-28 o D.C.: Sept 26-28 o Can set up a table in the lounge area o Forms or online is an option . Forms would most likely be easier o Forms in the library with sign o A box to collect forms so we could send them and count them . Michelle will pick up boxes at Vons o Most deadlines are in the beginning of October o Publicize how to obtain absentee ballots o Advertising . Email . Facebook . DC slide-Rachel . Fliers (with picture of Dr. Beebe?)-Julianna & Zach . Start advertising next Wednesday . Publicize the materials needed to register (driver’s license, etc.) o Creation of instructions for helping us in assisting people in registering- Kristin and Joe . For absentee ballots for library-Nicole o Times we’ll be in the DC: . Dinner-Wednesday . Lunch-Thursday . Lunch-Friday</p><p>4. Clubs  Fruit trees/Garden club o Email from Anthony Waldrop . Interns- so far nothing has materialized as far as a club, it does not seem very likely . Sodexo does not have funds to give to the project at this time o How does this fit with our vision? . Helps to feed the homeless (Bread of Life)  Perhaps stipulate that a certain amount of the produce be given to the community in need . Environmentally friendly to grow your own food, demonstrates support for the local food movement o Uses student fee dollars, how does this help the students? . Concern about the fact we won’t see returns on this for awhile . Some aspects of the program appear to be taking off and awareness is growing . Lack of current student involvement is concerning- no students will step up to start a club . It would simply make Westmont a little bit better, would be something special about our campus . Students are really busy, how realistic is it for them to get involved in the future?  Is there external continuity from Sodexo to sustain this? o The plans and resources are in place for this happen right now o An investment in something you see the fruit of later o Education for students in the future about why this is important . Co-write an article for The Horizon? o Motion: To fund Anthony/the Westmont Garden $1442 for the proposed items . Amendment: There should be a written commitment that they will continue to give no less than a third of what they produce to Bread of Life/another local organization that serves the underprivileged. . Everyone: Aye  About 30 clubs have applied o Coordinating with WSM about what qualifies as a ministry vs. club o Getting ready for the fair/approving clubs . Previously WCSA has waived the $1 fee for making posters for the fair; that should be fine . Student athletes have a deal with Nike to buy discounted apparel this is available for clubs such as rugby and ultimate frisbee o Meeting with club presidents on Monday . WAC representative will also come talk o Community picnic is on September 20 . Will require our help . We can have a table</p><p>5. Open Meeting Agenda  Topics o Garden/Westmont being environmentally conscious o DC . Clock . Lack of a bar while putting away dishes o What would make students feel more prepared for elections o What sorts of conversations would the students like to see happen at Westmont o Diversity at Westmont o What it means to be globally minded as a Westmont student  First hour dedicated to open meeting, second hour our normal logistical stuff  Maybe put posters up around for people to write on, make it interactive o Election o Garden o Diversity  Introduction, discuss our vision, big group framing questions, then time for interactive activities  Advertisement  Who is coming to the meeting? o Personal invites o Clubs o Other student leaders o Representatives from the various dorms- have RAs and RDs pass it on  Food</p><p>6. Global Focus Week  Brainstorm ideas of things we could be a part of during Global Focus Week o Screening of documentaries and movies o Bring in a speaker o Putting on some event o Panel discussion involving biblical perspectives</p><p>7. First-Year Elections  September 24: first-year election packets due o Information and petition o Signatures can be from students of any class  Release election packets this week  Speeches: October 1 o Think about when and where we will hold speeches  Open voting right after the speeches  Hand them out and people pick them up o All-students email o Advertise at first-year retreat</p><p>8. Questions  Joe and Julianna bringing dinner to first-year retreat on Friday night  Class chapels</p><p>Meeting ends at 10:00 p.m.</p>
