<p> World Geography, Cultures, and Social Studies Skills Map Portfolio Assignment</p><p>Throughout the year, students will create a portfolio of maps, adding new maps each quarter. The portfolio will be due one week prior to the last day of each quarter. To complete this assignment, students may look online or in an atlas or other reference book to find an appropriate model to use to draw the maps by hand onto 8.5x11 printer paper. The collection of maps will be combined and placed into a folder with sheet protectors to make an attractive, neat, visually informative world reference atlas. All of the maps should be colored and include a legend as appropriate. The reference maps found online should be saved and pasted into a PowerPoint presentation. At the conclusion of each quarter, students should be prepared to present the information to the class using both the PowerPoint and their self-created portfolio of world maps. </p><p>Quarter 1 Map Assignments</p><p>Create a world atlas with the following maps:  Outline of world (free hand map drawn from memory)  Physical map of world  Map of world climates (tropical, sub-tropical, etc.)  Map of world biomes (desert, grassland, forest, etc.)  World political (include and label all countries)  World population (legend showing most and least populous regions)  World economics (Gross domestic product per country)  World map of economic freedom  World poverty or map of world hunger  World internet access  World energy use  World map of human ecological footprint  World map of happiness</p><p>Quarter 2 Map Assignments</p><p>In addition to all of the maps created previously, this quarter we will add the following:</p><p> World languages  World religions  Historical atlas with the following themes o World migrations o Early civilizations o Early empires o Indian Ocean trade o Columbian exchange o Spread of democracy o Colonialism/Imperialism o World War I alliances o World War I before and after maps of Europe and Middle East o World War II alliances5 o Cold War alliances o Globalization Quarter 3 Map Assignments</p><p>In addition to all of the maps created previously, this quarter we will add the following:</p><p> Detailed Maps of Africa   Detailed Maps of Middle East (Southwest Asia)   Detailed Maps of Asia (South, East, Southeast Asia)   Detailed Maps of Australia / Oceana   Detailed Maps of Europe   Detailed Maps of North America   Detailed Maps of Latin America (Middle, Central, and South America)   </p>
