Farm animals, in this unit standard, refers to sheep, cattle, pigs, and deer.</p><p>3 To achieve credit for this unit standard, candidates must perform ultrasound scanning on sheep and at least one other species, with an overall accuracy rate for each species of at least 98%. At least 200 scans must be performed for sheep, and (depending on the other species selected), at least 45 scans for cattle, 10 scans for pigs, and 5 for deer. Assessment evidence must include internal and external scanning as appropriate to the species. Animals scanned must include twin and single pregnancies.</p><p>4 Unit 5164, Demonstrate knowledge of and respond to client requests for advice on farm animal breeding, and Unit 5166, Assist with parturition and aftercare of farm animals, and respond to client requests for advice, contain useful underpinning knowledge for this unit standard.</p><p>Elements and performance criteria</p><p>Element 1</p><p>Prepare for ultrasound scanning of farm animals.</p><p>Performance criteria</p><p>1.1 Conditions are assessed in terms of suitability for ultrasound scanning.</p><p>Range conditions include but are not limited to – foetal age, gut fill of dam, on-site facilities and equipment, weather conditions, available assistance.</p><p>1.2 Equipment is selected and set up according to practice protocol and on-site conditions.</p><p>Range includes but is not limited to – scanner, probe, restraint, markers, equipment for technician safety and comfort.</p><p>Element 2</p><p>Carry out ultrasound scanning of farm animals.</p><p>Performance criteria</p><p>2.1 Ultrasound scanning is carried out according to species, equipment, and legislative requirements, and according to practice protocol.</p><p>2.2 Ultrasound scanning is completed to an overall accuracy rate of at least 98%.</p><p>Ó New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2018 21359 version 2 Page 3 of 3</p><p>2.3 Results of scanning are documented according to practice protocol.</p><p>2.4 Animals are marked according to pregnancy status and consistent with farmer requirements.</p><p>2.5 Equipment is cleaned and stored according to practice protocol.</p><p>Please note</p><p>Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.</p><p>Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.</p><p>Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.</p><p>Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
