<p> Study Skills</p><p>CALL UP Notetaking Skills</p><p>Appropriate Grade Level: 6-12</p><p>Procedures/Steps: * Copy from board or transparency * Add details * Listen and write the question * Listen and write the answer * Utilize the text * Put it in your own words</p><p>* Ask yourself do my notes represent what the lesson was about * Name the main ideas and details * Observe main ideas and details * Try margin noting and use SAND strategy * star important ideas * arrange arrows to connect ideas * number key points in order * devise abbreviations * Examine for omissions or unclear ideas * Summarize key points</p><p>Comments and/or tips: * CALL UP is a designed for students to use while taking notes in class. “A” NOTES was designed for students to use for reviewing notes after the classroom presentation. * Linking the Device to the Strategy: 1. Use the CALL UP Notetaking Strategy to help you CALL UP your memory. 2. This strategy also helps you to CALL UP your attention by helping you to be more focused on what is being said in class. * A lack of notetaking skills places students with learning diasabilities at a major disadvantage in terms of understanding and recalling lecture information. Notetaking is a complex process, consisting of four broad skills: ~Listening ~Cognitive processing ~Writing ~Reviewing noted information * Instruction in notetaking needs to occur as students move from elementary to secondary school because students face more complex listening demands in secondary school.</p><p>Source: Czarnecki, E., Rosko, D. & Fine, E.
