<p> Kentucky Beef Industry - Who We Are</p><p>Who We Are Kentucky is the largest cow producing state east of the Mississippi River and home to over 2.46 million beef cattle (2007), which is the largest since 1998. KY ranks 4th nationally in total number of farms. </p><p>Kentucky has 25,388.000 acres of land with farm land accounting for 13.7 million acres, which is 54 percent of the total acreage in Kentucky. Kentucky has 38,000 beef cow farms and its beef cow herd consists of 1.2 million beef cows making KY the eighth largest beef cow producing state in the United States.</p><p>Cattle Income Cattle are the third largest agricultural commodity in Kentucky. Cash receipts in 2006 from the cattle industry in Kentucky totaled $607 million. </p><p>Top Producing Counties In 2007, the top cow producing counties in Kentucky are Barren (39,000 head); Warren (34,500 head); Pulaski (34,200 head); Breckinridge (36,800); and Madison (26,800).
