Is Money the Root of All Evil

Is money the root of all evil? Yiu Hoi Yan 6B These days, money appears to be a matter for defining success. The more money you have, the more the respect you gain from others. A successful person has more money and enjoys more material comforts. As a result, many people think money is the root of all evil. In fact, I do not agree. In this article, I am going to explain why money is not the root of all evil.

Money is used for easier business transcations. In the old days, when we did not use money for transcations, people exchanged their goods in order to get what they wanted.

We cannot say money is the root of all evil because when we look back to the times people exchanged goods, crimes still existed. Since people want to get more and enjoy the comfortable life, crimes will happen. On the contrary, greed is the root of all evil.

Greed is an excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth. If you have money, you will surely spend it on food, clothes or other goods. Some people may also spend money on travelling or studying.

Many social problems like stealing and domestic violence seem to be related to money. But when we think deeply, these happen because of greed. People steal money and use the stolen money for buying goods. Domestic violence happens because people do not have food or clothes. People always want a better life and enjoy more material comforts.

Compensated dating is another example to prove greed is the root of all evil. Compensated dating is a practice which originated in Japan. In Hong Kong, young girls shop, eat out or go to the movies with men in return for payment in order to fulfill their material needs. Some of these girls even ‘sell’ their bodies. But for what? Money? No, for buying expensive brands.

To conclude, greed is the root of all evil. If we could lead a simple life with less materialism, our society would have fewer social problems.
