<p>MAINE VOLUNTEER LAKE MONITORING PROGRAM Invasive Plant Patrol Workshop Sample Email Announcement</p><p>Hi everyone, </p><p>The Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program has posted its 2013 Invasive Plant Patrol workshop schedule online at www.mainevolunteerlakemonitors.org/workshops/ </p><p>One/Two workshop/s is/are coming to our area! </p><p>1) Invasive Plant Patrol Introductory Workshop: Day, Date, Time, Location</p><p>The primary goal of this comprehensive, 5 ½ -hour workshop is to provide those who wish to join Maine's "early detection" effort with information and guidance needed to get started. </p><p>The workshop is presented in four parts: Overview of invasive species issues in Maine and beyond Plant identification fundamentals Plant identification hands-on exercise with live plants Conducting a screening survey, tools and techniques</p><p>All workshop participants receive an “Invasive Plant Patroller’s Handbook,” and Maine's Field Guide to Invasive Aquatic Plants.</p><p>2) Invasive Plant Patrol Field Methods, on the water training: Day, Date, Time, Location </p><p>This workshop provides on-lake instruction and practice conducting invasive aquatic plant screening surveys. The course was designed as advanced training for those who have already attended the Introductory IPP workshop, but previous workshop experience is not a prerequisite. In fact, for those who learn best by doing, this workshop may be the perfect way to begin your training. Participants must bring their own shallow draft boats, e.g. canoes, kayaks, inflatables. (Additional boat space may be available upon request.) </p><p>Registration for these workshops is required by visiting the VLMP website at: www.mainevolunteerlakemonitors.org/workshops/ find the workshop you wish to attend and select the “Register Online” link to the right. You can also sign up by calling the VLMP at 783-7733.</p><p>All IPP training sessions are open to the public and FREE to anyone interested in learning more about the threat of invasive aquatic plants in Maine. </p><p>I look forward to seeing you all at one or both of these important training events.
