MPM2D: Analytic Geometry: Assignment

A triangular wading pool is to be built on a corner lot.

The corners of the pool have been staked out relative to the street corner, and lie at (10,1), (2,3), and (8,7).

1. Make a diagram of the pool, and measure to estimate the pool perimeter and area.

2. Complete the following two parts algebraically. For each, write an algorithm (plan with numbered steps), then solve the problem.

a) A flexible, cushioned border is to be installed around the perimeter of the pool. If it costs $42.00 per m, what will be the total cost for the border?

b) How much water would be required to fill the pool to a depth of .7 m? (Your answer should be accurate to two decimal places – you can approximate using decimals if you wish)

Marking:

Application (10 marks) - algorithms correct and efficient - algebra correct Communication (Rubric) - diagrams, mathematical communication
