BOOK REVIEW: on Speaking Well by Peggy Noonan

BOOK REVIEW

On Speaking Well …by Peggy Noonan

Peggy Noonan is not just a premier presidential speech writer, she writes a first-rate book as well. To those who must speak in public, as well as struggling first-timers, I highly recommend this book. It will hold the interest of anyone who is even remotely interested in public speaking and the power of words.

There are pointers and tips but it is her passion for content and substance--“The most moving thing in a speech is always the logic”--that raise this book above the level of your average public speaking paperbacks.

Then there are the characters. Presidents: Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Celebrities: Christopher Reeve, Earl Spencer and then there are their words. Talk about learning by example. The story of Mother Teresa at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington all by itself is worth the price of admission.

This book is a worthwhile read. The time spent, a good investment.
