Examen de inglés Selectividad Bon's tips (www.bontips.com)

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SPAIN AND GREAT BRITAIN The British are traditionally very punctual and you will be expected to respect this and be punctual too; this means if the appointment or meeting is scheduled for 9:00, it will start bang on time, or, at the very most, five or ten minutes later. When dining out, the same rule applies. If, however, you are invited to a cocktail, the term "eight for eight thirty" means arriving no later than eight thirty. Normal office hours are usually 9:00 until 17:00 or 9:30 until 17:30 p.m. Factories begin earlier and finish earlier. Shops usually close at 18:00 unless they are big department stores. The most important difference to bear in mind is that nothing closes at midday in the UK and there is always someone available to take your phone call or to attend you. The staff work lunch-time shifts, between 12:00 and 14:00 so that in any event, you can leave a message. People retire to bed earlier than in Spain, so don't be surprised if the evening with your guests finishes by 22:00. Accordingly, it is not advisable to phone anyone at their home after 22:00. It is quite normal in the UK for people to have a one-hour journey to work and back each day. a) Add True or False, quoting the relevant information from the text. (3 p.) 1.
