Before you begin planning and designing your logo, check out some creative digital logos at these websites. http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/web-design/great-web-logos-for-creative-inspiration/ http://www.logoorange.com/logodesign-A.php</p><p>Your goal this week is to create a logo that reflects who you are.</p><p>As you begin to plan your logo, brainstorm a set of words and goals that best describes you as a person, teacher, or learner. Next, determine the design principles you can use to evoke the descriptive words as you begin to design your logo. Remember to use your readings from this week that focus on color, layouts, and other elements. The questions below will help you think about planning and reviewing your logo. Enter your answers in the expandable boxes provided.</p><p>List of words that best describe you</p><p>Words that I received from family, friends, and co-workers that describe me are: energetic, happy, diligent, nature lover, teacher, hard worker, determined, strong, tough, smart, creative, opinionated, and friendly, helpful.</p><p>Meeting initial goals What were your initial goals for the logo?</p><p>While designing my logo, I wanted to create one that imparted my personality and shared my love of technology. At the same time, I wanted to show my willingness to help teachers in my district with their technology needs and inspire them to adopt 21st Century teaching and learning in their classrooms. </p><p>Does the logo you have match the initial goals? Why or why not?</p><p>My logo that I created has met most of my goals. I thought about putting an image of a computer, but using too many visuals takes away from the simplicity that I desired. During this process, I realized that the use of text can achieve the same things that graphics can without </p><p>2010 Lamar University Page 1 of 5 EDLD 5366 Digital Graphics, Animation, and Desktop Publishing Peggy Hale #8014 making it too busy with graphics. I think the choice of the three people represent teachers and/or students and shares the feeling of working together to achieve success. I was able to use the district’s school colors and continue with the overall theme of community, teamwork, and purpose driven. I chose to place my “sticky” slogan underneath and hoped that the choice of words do not impart any negative connotations. I looked up the definition of stale to make sure that it can be substituted to something other than food. I was elated when I found that it said boredom…and that fit my intentions perfectly. I thought about saying, “email pnhale” instead of “call”, but it just did not have the right sound for a catchy phrase.</p><p>I used the website, logomaker to create my logo. It was easy to use, simple and user friendly, but somewhat limited. I was not able to do some of my ideas, but decided that I could develop these skills on other programs. </p><p>Reflecting good design principles What design elements and principles did you incorporate into the logo?</p><p>I tried to apply the all four of the design principles we learned in the first week and experimented with many different layouts and text placements. I feel that I incorporated all four design principals of CRAP: contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity. I used color contrast, and contrast in font style and size. The repetitions used in my design were in the colors of green, the repetitive alliterations of tic, tac, and tech, and the image of the three people. I chose to place the gold person on top, purposely because all the campuses have gold in their school colors, but not green and purple. I experimented with so many different placements of the text and felt like this final one looked the best. I felt like the eyes flowed in the left, right direction and stopped at the bottom with my slogan. </p><p>1.2 Constructing your logo To construct your logo, you have the option to use Photoshop or open source software from Week 1. The instructions for creating a new document are included in the Resource Section in a folder titled How To’s . These instructions can be used with Adobe Photoshop or any of the open source software.</p><p>2010 Lamar University Page 2 of 5 EDLD 5366 Digital Graphics, Animation, and Desktop Publishing Peggy Hale #8014 Your first step is to determine the canvas size. Typical sizes are 79 x 51 pixels (very small), 150 x 25 pixels, 125 x 144 pixels, and 243 x 103 pixels. Use the instructions on How to Create a New Document to establish the canvas size. Be aware of the file extension that you use to save your logo. Refer back to the review document in Week 1 that discusses file extensions. You will be inserting your logo in your digital newsletter in Week 4. You will need to determine how to save your logo in order for it to display correctly in your digital newsletter. Describe how this logo reflects you as a person, teacher, or learner.</p><p>The logo I designed shares the energy that I have as a person by using the snappy phrase: tic, tac, tech. I think it also shows a kind of order which I demand in my activities. Many times the obsession with order drives me crazy in my line of work. I tried using the suggestions I gained from a video to get your slogan to “stick”. The four suggestions were the use of alliteration, double entendre, repetition, and reversal. I hope to use this logo on my school website, blogs, b andmp in my correspondence to teachers in my district. I have several versions of my logo and love to see how I developed skill through this process.
