Grading Guidelines:

Major Grade Guidelines

A student who earns a grade of lower than a 70 on a major assignment (excluding final exams) will be afforded the opportunity to earn up to a maximum grade of a 70 on that assignment. The student will have an opportunity within five days at the discretion of the teacher to re-take that assignment. If a student scores above a 70 on the re-take or new assignment, the maximum grade a student can receive is a 70. If a student scores below a 70 on the re-take or new assignment, the higher of the two grades will be accepted. Acceptable activities that demonstrate mastery include, but are not limited to: alternative types of assessment, assessment corrections, and evidence of remediation.

Minor Grade Guidelines

A student who earns a grade of lower than a 70 on a minor assignment will be afforded the opportunity to earn up to a maximum grade of a 70 on that assignment. The student will have a minimum of two days to retake that assignment. If a student scores above a 70 the maximum grade a student can receive is a 70. If a student scores below a 70 on the new assignment, the higher of the two grades will be accepted. Acceptable activities that demonstrate mastery include but are not limited to: alternative types of assessment, assessment corrections, and evidence of remediation.

Late Work

If an assignment is turned in late (not when collected by the teacher, or in following the department’s homework, minor assignment, or major assignment policy) it will be accepted late for a penalty. If the student does not turn in the assignment at all, a zero is recorded, and that assignment cannot be “made up.” However, if the work is turned in, but is either incorrect to the point that it receives a failing grade, or receives a failing grade due to a combination of incorrect answers and late work penalties, the student is permitted two (2) days to complete an alternative assignment showing mastery of the concept or assigned work.
