<p> Tips and Tricks</p><p>Importing SIMS Data Into Excel</p><p>From certain SIMS forms, you can perform a Data Extract and move the data into Excel. Saving data to Excel allows you to format, manipulate, and share the data in a way that SIMS does not. It is assumed that you know how to use Excel and specifically how to work with comma delimited files. </p><p>These forms include:</p><p>SFAALST Class Attendance Roster SFASLST Class Roster SFASTCA Student Course Registration Audit SFAREGQ Registration Query SAAEAPS Electronic Application Process SHACRSE Course Summary SHASTAT Academic Standing SOISBGI Prior College Query Form GLAEXTR Population Selection Extract Data</p><p>In SIMS:</p><p> Open the form and execute a new query.  Select the Help menu and Extract Data No Key.  A new window will open with your data in a text format.  Select File: Save As.  Locate a logical folder location for the file.  Select the Save as Type – TEXT (*.txt).  Name the file an easily identifiable name.  Click on Save.  Close Browser Window.</p><p>In Excel:</p><p> Open the text file. The Text Import Wizard will automatically appear and you will be able to set up the appropriate parameters to open and view the file in Excel. </p>
