<p> COURSE SYLLABUS</p><p>INTRODUCTION TO BLUEPRINT READING</p><p>Course Description:</p><p>This course is designed to provide the Iron Worker student with training in the elements of construction drawing, steel frame construction drawings, types of drawings, architectural and engineering drawings, and conveyor drawings.</p><p>Course Objective: </p><p>The objective of this course is to enable a student to read construction blueprints.</p><p>Learning Outcomes:</p><p>Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:</p><p> Identify the types of construction drawings.  Interpret elements of drawings and common abbreviations and acronyms.  Interpret symbols and drawing information.  Read the basic elements of a drawing.</p><p>Target Audience: </p><p>This course is designed for apprentices.</p><p>Length of Course: </p><p>This course is designed to be offered during a total of 20 hours of classroom instruction. Course sessions may be conducted during evenings in blocks of 3 or 4 hours or may be conducted during all day sessions. Given the time required for students to master these skills, it is recommended that all day courses include classroom sessions of no more than a 3 to 4-hour block in the morning and a 3 to 4-hour block in the afternoon.</p><p>Location of the Course: </p><p>All course sessions will be held at the facilities used by the local union. </p><p>Instructor Information:</p><p>The instructor for this course is a journeyman Iron Worker with experience reading construction blueprints, who is able to read all of the prints covered in this course, and who has been trained as an instructor. Course Materials:</p><p> Introduction to Blueprint Reading Reference Manual  Introduction to Blueprint Reading Instructor Guide (for instructors only)  Introduction to Blueprint Reading Student Workbook and Drawings  Introduction to Blueprint Reading DVD  Assignment Sheets (in the Student Workbook)  Job Sheets (in the Student Workbook)  Tests (in the Instructor Guide)</p><p>A Word about Safety</p><p>The importance of safety will be addressed and reinforced in all hands-on activities in the classroom, in the shop, and on the job site.</p><p>Course Assignments: </p><p>There are assignment sheets and job sheets for each unit of instruction plus several of the assignments are keyed to the drawings. Students will complete these assignment sheets and job sheets prior to and/or during course sessions as determined by the instructor. </p><p>Course Grading Criteria: </p><p>To successfully complete this course, the student must complete all of the assignment sheets, job sheets, and pass the knowledge tests.</p><p>Course Attendance: </p><p>All course sessions are mandatory and while missed time can be made up, missing a course session will affect your ability to successfully complete this course. Speak with the instructor to arrange make-up time if necessary.</p><p>Course Schedule:</p><p>NOTE: The following Course Schedule is set up for blocks or sessions 3 hours in length.
