<p> Air Force Association Aerospace Education Awards Chapter and State Teacher of the Year Nomination Forms ______Teacher of Year information is found in the Field Operations Guide, Chapter Four (4-17). </p><p>Chapter Teacher of the Year Award http://www.afa.org/aef/aid/cty.asp </p><p>The purpose of the program is to recognize classroom teachers at the chapter and state level for their accomplishments and achievements in exciting K-12 students about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and preparing students to use and contribute to tomorrow’s technologies. This is a unique opportunity for chapters and states to reward outstanding teachers who are furthering excellence in making coming to class an adventure. </p><p>Guidelines and Criteria  Chapters may select one TOY from any grade level or may select two TOYs: one from grades K-8 and one from grades 9-12 for submission to HQ AFA to receive award components each year.  Chapters located in states without a state organization may select either a Chapter or State Teacher of the Year, but not both.  AFA elected chapter officers and their immediate family members (spouse/children) are not eligible.  Teachers may be selected any time between 1 May and 30 April, but state AEVPs are encouraged to set submission dates during the school year that will enable the progression of a teacher from chapter to state competition in time to meet the national TOY nomination deadline of 31 May, if warranted.  AEVP should have the teacher(s) submit the following to be scanned and attached to the nomination form: 1- A one-page narrative of the teacher’s accomplishments and achievements in support of STEM and the impact of these activities on the students. 2- Optional three pages of newspaper articles, other documents, and/or photos that include the teacher with students completing STEM activities (ensure students in photos have media release permission for use). 3- A letter of recommendation/support from a school official, principal or higher. </p><p>Note for Chapter AEVP: Fully completed Chapter Teacher of the Year Nomination Form and associated documents for one teacher or two should be sent to [email protected] at least three weeks prior to Chapter TOY(s) award presentation(s) to give HQ AFA time to provide award components through mail. Only one of the Chapter TOY nomination packages should then be forwarded to the State AEVP for State TOY consideration by date set by State AEVP.</p><p>State Teacher of the Year Award http://www.afa.org/aef/aid/sta.asp </p><p>Guidelines and Criteria  State TOY candidate must be a current or previous Chapter Teacher of Year.  Chapters located in states without a state organization may select either a Chapter or State Teacher of the Year but not both.  Only one state teacher per year can be submitted to HQ AFA to receive award components.  Teachers may be selected any time between 1 May and 30 April, but State AEVPs are encouraged to set submission dates during the school year that will enable the progression of a teacher from chapter to state competition in time to meet the national TOY nomination deadline of 31 May, if warranted.  Chapter AEVP should submit the completed Chapter TOY package to the State AEVP by state deadline set by State AEVP, with the addition of a letter of endorsement from the Chapter President for the State TOY nomination package.</p><p>Note for State AEVP: Chapter President’s endorsement letter should be attached to the fully completed Chapter Teacher of the Year Nomination Package. The State President’s endorsement form for the state candidate should be the cover sheet for the package.
