<p> Nashville International Center for Empowerment Refugee AmeriCorps Member Position Description</p><p>Position: Refugee AmeriCorps Employment Assistant Service Term: 12 months; start in Mid-November 2017 to late December 2018 Hours: Full-time (must serve 1700 hours within 12 months); 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday Reports To: Health Program Manager Service Site: Nashville, Tennessee </p><p>About NICE: Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE), established in 2005, is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 ethnic community-based organization dedicated to empowering refugees and immigrants in Middle Tennessee through direct social services and educational programs. NICE is an affiliate organization of the Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc. located in Arlington, Virginia. </p><p>Benefits of Becoming a Refugee AmeriCorps Member: The Refugee Refugee AmeriCorps program is a joint program formed between the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and the Corporation for National and Com- munity Service (CNCS). This partnership gives members the opportunity to apply their energy, experience, knowledge and talents to help recently resettled refugees better integrate in their new communities. The full- time member will receive a living allowance, health insurance, vacation time off, on-the-job and other training, and CNCS’s Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,730 upon successful completion of service. </p><p>Position Summary: The Refugee AmeriCorps Employment Assistant will support NICE’s employment team by helping newly resettled refugees and other ORR-eligible clients gain access to the Nashville job market. The Assistant will help develop and teach workshops on job readiness topics that are specific to the needs of current arriving populations. Furthermore, the Assistant will assist in tracking and documenting all services provided to job-seeking refugees, provide follow-up services for clients placed in jobs, and will work alongside case managers to decide whether a client can be considered self-sufficient. The Assistant will be responsible for increasing refugee job placement and employment outcomes at NICE. </p><p>Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Development of resource/training guide for refugees and other ORR eligible populations clients regarding employment search and preparation process. 2. Deliver job search training to clients. 3. Responsible for maintaining relationships with current employers. 4. Assist clients to submit job applications. 5. Assist clients with individual orientation, job skills assessment, and job search assistance. 6. Provide knowledge of job expectations and proper conduct as part of the skills development training for clients. 7. Provide transportation as needed for job interviews and orientation. 8. Maintain effective communication with other social service providers outside of NICE, such as health agencies, schools, Dept. of Human Services, etc. 9. Ensure good working relationships and clear communications with refugees and employers. 10. Provide individual assessments for clients and follow-up services during eligibility period. 11. Provide training and orientation to clients regarding workplace rights/responsibility. 12. Maintain documentation as required by donors for clients’ files. 13. Visit client job sites for follow up. 14. Recruit and train volunteers to assist in job readiness training and ESL instruction. 15. Assist in the development and implementation of new employment activities within the agency, including seeking funding or assistance from allowable (non-federal) sources. 16. Attend staff and program meetings as scheduled. 17. Attend and participate in AmeriCorps trainings, meetings, events, and service projects, and attend the ECDC National Conference in Arlington, Virginia, April 26-29, 2016. 18. Maintain ongoing communication with on-site supervisor and staff.</p><p>Requirements:  Must be a US citizen, US national, or legal permanent resident  Must have a high school diploma or enrollment in a GED program.  Candidates are subject to National Service Criminal History check as required by AmeriCorps and driving record check.  Additional language capabilities is preferred – but not required. Preferred languages include: Somali, Swahili, Spanish, Burmese, Nepali, Arabic  Ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.  Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks on timely matters  Strong written and oral English proficiency.  Willingness to work non-traditional hours on occasion, such as nights and weekends.  Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.  High levels of self-motivation and independence.  Ability to work as part of a diverse team.  High level skills with computer software, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel  Familiarity with information databases, internet and email.  Commitment to live and work in Nashville, Tennessee.  Reliable transportation and ability to drive clients to job appointments.  Wear AmeriCorps gear, symbol or name tag to identify self as an AmeriCorps member when in service.  Complete the minimum number of service hours and trainings required by the position.</p><p>Physical Demands  Moderate physical activity, which includes standing, sitting, lifting and/or walking.  Ability to see within normal parameters.  Ability to hear within normal parameters.  Requires local travel to meetings and businesses.  Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.</p><p>How to Apply:</p><p>To apply for this position, please send your resume and cover letter to [email protected].
