For Egyptian Art

Volunteer Notes For Egyptian Art Items needed:

Scratch pads (1 per) Art paper (1 per) Wooden stylus (1 per) Egyptian templates (1 per, but enough for choices) *May need to make copies! Concepts being taught: Please be able to understand and explain these to the students.

The slides do a great job of explaining the artistic uses of Symbolism, Scale, Color and Body positioning in Egyptian art. But here are few definitions. Symbolism- Images that represent a story, person, ideas or feelings. Hieroglyphs are symbols. Scale- In art, scale refers to the size of an object in relationship to a clear set of measurements. Artists use this form of art to create artistic pieces and the relative size of the artwork is compared to the size of the human body, and at times is minimized or exaggerated for artistic affect, or as symbolism of the importance or insignificance of those portrayed. *It is amazing that this art form remained unchanged for over 3000 years! That means no outside artistic influences and no experimenting during all that time. No other art period has lasted as long.

Other Notes: Please be sure to read through all instructions with the students before they begin any project. Have the students use their extra paper to practice writing in hieroglyphs and/or try tracing the templates to make extra projects if they have time. Bring all tools and extras back to the supply closet. Have Fun!
