<p>Oil Pastel Flowers 1st Grade</p><p>Project Objective: Students will listen to the story “A Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle. They will draw a flower using oil pastels. Students will also demonstrate principle of design: pattern on their border around the flower.</p><p>Ohio Academic Content Standard: Goal 1 Perceiving/Knowing Identify and point out visual art and design elements and principles in their own artworks and in those of others using art vocabulary.</p><p>Generate artmaking ideas from their daily experiences and the environment.</p><p>Goal 2 Producing/Performing Explore and use a range of subject matter to create original works of art.</p><p>Create an artwork based on observation of familiar objects and scenes</p><p>Goal 3 Responding/Reflecting Recognize and point out the strengths in their artworks and how the work could be improved.</p><p>Learning Target: I can point out one strength in my artwork.</p><p>Key Vocabulary: Oil Pastels Pattern Georgia O’Keefe Vincent van Gogh Dale Chihuly</p><p>Stimulation Presented: There will be a review of the artists the students learned about when they created their Chihuly flowers (Vincent van Gogh, Georgia O’Keefe, and Dale Chihuly). The book “A Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle will be read to the students.</p><p>Materials: 1. White 9x12 paper 2. Oil Pastels 3. Pattern worksheet 4. Construction paper 12x18 various colors to mount drawings Directions: 1. Time Frame Allowable: 2 class periods 2. Prep work: Make example 3. Stimulation presented 4. The project will be presented to the students. Examples will be shown to the students of what they will be making. a. Day one: Read story, talk about different shapes that make up flowers and colors to use when coloring flowers, have examples of different flowers printed out for students to use as reference. Students will draw and color their flowers b. Day two: Mount flower drawing onto 12x18in construction paper and complete pattern worksheet. Put pattern around border using oil pastels.</p><p>Differentiation: Students will be encouraged to add as much detail as possible if they have the time and skill to do so. Students will also be given ways to take their project one step further if desired. Students who are struggling will be encouraged to take their take to complete the main task and not to worry about the extra stuff.
