<p>Playing Area and the Players</p><p>Goal Crease</p><p>RW RW = Right Wing RD LW = Left Wing Goal C G C = Center RD = Right Defense LD LD = Left Defense LW G = Goalkeeper</p><p>Player Responsibilities</p><p>Positions Responsibilities </p><p>Forward: Center, Right Wing, Left Wing - Advance the ball into the offensive zone - Pass, dribble, and score</p><p>Defense: Right, Left - Break up scoring opportunities by the offense - Clear the ball into the offensive zone for the forwards - Clear the balls that rebound from the goalkeeper </p><p>Goalkeeper: - Align self with the ball to reduce the area into which the Shooter can aim - Use the stick, glove, and body to block shots - Push the ball to the sides of the court</p><p>Offensive Playing Strategies Defensive Playing Strategies </p><p>- Use the “give and go” principles - Position self between player and the goal - Move into open space to receive ball - Put pressure on the ball to force a pass - Move away from a teammate with the - Do not obstruct vision of the goalie ball to become a receiver - Triangle Offense - Clear the ball to the sidelines _ Basic Rules of Play (Modified for PE Class Situation) </p><p>- Game begins with a face-off in the center circle (Touch sticks 3 times) - Ball that gets trapped behind the bleachers is put in play by the defense - All shots must originate inside the offensive zone - No slapshots!!!! - Offensive player may not be in the goal crease when the ball is scored - Player may catch and drop an airborne puck - Players may play the ball with their feet but are not permitted to step on the ball - Goalies may put the ball back in play after they have stopped the puck - Stick stays below the waist at all times - Play the ball and not the person (No body contact)</p><p>Penalties </p><p>Penalties are given to players who violate the following rules:</p><p>1. Slashing: using the stick to impede progress or hit an opponent 2. Lifting the puck: intentionally lifting the puck in the air 3. Slapshots: bringing the stick back to shoot the puck 4. High Sticking: raising the stick above the waist 5. Checking: body contact that forces the opponent away from the ball</p><p>Stick Handling Pointers </p><p>- Control the ball by using short sweeps to each side - Keep the stick low, hands are best kept 12 inches apart on the stick - Use wrist action, shots and passes can be made from the forehand or backhand</p><p>Vocabulary </p><p>1.
