Republic of Kazakhstan

Positions for the Security Council

I. Conflict in Yemen The Arab Spring, which began as a great awakening to western democratic ideals in the Middle East, brought great success and liberation for many and led to an increase in tensions in preexisting fratricidal strife. The latter occurred in the Republic of Yemen. With this, the Republic of Kazakhstan, in no uncertain terms, condemns all parties involved in the loss of any innocent civilians life, the destruction of entire villages and towns, and overall disruption of regular order within the Republic of Yemen and the surrounding region. The civil war raging in Yemen deserves robust international response to quail the violence and alleviate the citizens of Yemen. The Republic of Kazakhstan seeks to lead the international community in (1) combatting the atrocities caused by local, regional, and international terrorism, with emphasis on weakening the strongholds and financial channels of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), (2) brokering a long term compact between the major factions within the civil war, (3) stabilizing and rebuilding the economy of Yemen so that Yemenis have legitimate avenues to earn a living and provide for their families, and (4) returning Yemen back to a place where all of the pieces of the Yemeni culture that encompasses all parts of the population can be freely expressed without fear. II. Global Climate Change Kazakhstan thoroughly understands the impact that human activities cause on both the environment and ourselves. Thus, the Kazakh government urges, with unequivocal vigor, every member state invest in alternative energy sources to assist in curbing pollution and the bite of climate change. The People’s Republic of China, the United States of America, The United Kingdom, and Japan deserve recognition and gratification for their level of investment in alternative energy. As a nation that produces billions of petroleum and trillions of cubic meters of natural gas, Kazakhstan accepts that the energy of now is the life-line of dozens of nations and thus cannot be swiftly phased out. For those nations who are unsure to how to transition out of petroleum and natural gas without harming the stability of their economy, allow the Kazakh Republic to be your guiding light. Within the recent years, Kazakhstan has invested heavily in alternative energy sources, mainly nuclear energy.
