<p> INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES AND MANAGEMENT LESSON PLAN FORMAT Name: Marilyn Weiss Title of Unit: The Borrows 3 Day Mini-Unit Title of Lesson: The Borrower’s Screenplay Grade Level(s): 6-8</p><p>Goal: Introduce students to the medium of plays and scripts</p><p>Objective(s): Understanding Plays TSW: Learn what defines a play TSW: Practice reading a play TSW: Understand stage directions TSW: Develop their own screenplay</p><p>Standards/Assessment Anchors: 1.4 Types of Writing PA State Standards: 1.4.6-8.A: Write poems, short stories and plays Include literary elements and devices</p><p>Content Knowledge </p><p>Procedures: Day 1 After reading The Borrowers by Mary Norton the teacher will monitor a student lead discussion about the major plot points and the characters from the book. Day 2 The teacher will define a script and how it differs from different types of literature. The teacher will discuss the elements commonly found in a play or script with the students. The teacher will then give students the handout of a sample script. The class will review the sample script together. Then the teacher will show the YouTube clip from the movie “The Secret World of Arrietty” that is listed below. After viewing the clip the teacher will guide the students in writing out a scripted version of the YouTube clip on the chalkboard. Day 3 Have the students choose their favorite scene from the book or movie and rewrite it in the form of a play. Have the students get into groups and perform their scripts in front of the class.
