11:15 Contemporary Worship Ushering Guide

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God . . . Psalm 84:10 USHERING GUIDE 11:15 a.m. Contemporary Worship

Thank you for being an usher at DRC! As an usher you are the first face of DRC for many people, a helpful servant, and a welcomed smile. What you do is important.

Please arrive before 11:00 to make sure everything is in order, and to be ready to greet people as they arrive (visitors sometimes come a bit early to check things out).

Set-up: Normally things will be ready before you arrive; bulletins should be on the small table between the fellowship hall doors. Find the offering bags (normally on the ledge of the sound booth), and sign-in pads (normally on the table just inside fellowship hall). Often the pastors finish an insert after the bulletin is put together; if you find a stack of inserts sitting on the bulletins, please put one in or with each bulletin.

HEARING LOOP: A hearing loop headset is available for use in both worship spaces. It is stored near the sound booth in the Sanctuary. Welcoming: Smile – Make Eye Contact – Seek to Help Keep your eyes on the Narthex, ready to greet the next people who arrive. Offer everyone a bulletin. If they have young children offer the children’s bulletin (Yellow – Younger and Blue – Bigger). If you do not recognize them, introduce yourself. If they are new, offer them a welcome packet (found on the rotating bulletin board).

For people with young children, let them know we have a nursery available for infants to age 3, but they are welcome to keep their kids with them if they prefer. If they are interested in the nursery, ask someone nearby to show them where it is (it is nice to be guided there in person). Let people know that all elementary aged kids will be dismissed before the sermon for Sunday School.

Stay at the doors to greet people through the opening songs (normally 11:30 am).

Offering:

1. Take the blue velvet offering bags and pass them through the congregation, starting at the front. There is no rush. Once collected normally Terry O’Hare or Joan Collen will take it to the office. If they are not there, put it in a safe place while you do step 2, and then take it to the office.

2. Pass out the black register pads. Give one out per row, and try and put them directly in people’s hands. You do not need to collect them at this time. Wrap-up: After the service, collect the register pads. Tear out the complete top page of each one (if there are any names) and place in the office. Paperclip them together and note the service time and date on the top one.

 Page 2
