<p>Good afternoon!</p><p>This web site will allow you to keep up with what’s going on at Palmetto. Each week Palmetto Middle School is going to post a weekly update on this page. This site will keep you informed of upcoming events, trips, dates, projects, and holidays. Please ask around to see if other parents are checking this web page for the updates.</p><p>Upcoming Events and Dates:</p><p>PASS Writing Test – March 19th and 20th for Grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. Test taking tips:  Bring healthy snacks on the test days.  Be on time for school.  Get a good night’s sleep.  Eat a good breakfast.  Stay focused and relaxed. Palmetto Middle is PROUD of you!</p><p>Tal Davis competed at the ACC South Eastern Age Group Sectionals in Greensboro, NC this past Saturday. There were 9 states represented and Tal competed in 8 events. </p><p>He placed 3rd in the 4IM, 100 Backstroke He placed 5th in the 500 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke and 1000 Freestyle He placed 6th in the 200 Freestyle WOW! Student Council is sponsoring Pennies for Patients. Next week is the last week to bring in money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. So far we have raised $400. Sixth grade is in the lead. Winning grade gets extra recess.</p><p>Advanced Art Update: Please contact Mr. Addison at [email protected] if you have any questions.</p><p>Congratulations to 8th grader Rebecca Jennings, whose artwork received the AnMed Award for middle school at the Anderson County Arts Council's annual Youth Art Month county-wide art exhibit which began Sunday in Anderson. Rebecca's art will be on display at the Women's and Children's Hospital in Anderson for one year beginning in May. Congratulations also to Lexi Alexander, Hannah Beach, Savannah Ebright, Katie Edlein, Erin Lynch, Emily Payne, Autumn Smith, Rachel Tucker, and Kierra Smith- all of whose work was selected to participate in this annual show. The show runs until March 28 at the Anderson County Arts Council in downtown Anderson.</p><p>Guidance Update: If you have any questions please contact one of the following guidance counselors. 6th Grade [email protected] 7th Grade [email protected] 8th Grade [email protected]</p><p>From Guidance: Food Pantry Information: Individuals and families need of additional food resources during the current, difficult economic situation may benefit from the Palmetto Middle School Food Pantry. The food pantry program at Palmetto Middle School is designed to help families increase self sufficiency and meet food needs. Items in the food pantry are provided by Palmetto Middle School Beta Club food drives, generous staff members, and caring community members. Food Boxes are distributed to individuals and families upon request. If you are interested in receiving a Food Box please follow the procedures listed below. To receive a Food Box: 1. Click on Food Pantry Application link below. 2. Turn in completed Food Pantry Application to your child’s school counselor. 3. To earn Palmetto's Finest you must meet the following criteria: 1) All grades 80's and above 2) No demerits for the nine week period 3) No more than 2 unexcused absences. 4) Complete community service hours</p><p>10 hours of service are required for the first quarter. Students simply record the hours they volunteer, the service they provided, and have the supervisor sign and record their phone number.</p><p>Guidelines for hours 1. Ten hours of community service is required each nine weeks. 2. No more than four (4) hours of service can be directly related to any family member. 3. Completed service hours are due to your Homeroom teacher on the last day of the quarter. A minimum of ten hours of community service is required for each quarter of school. 8th Grade Update 8th graders need to bring in $1 and give it to their science teacher to buy an engine for their rockets.</p><p>7th Grade Update:</p><p>The 7th grade will be doing CAPS conferences March 18 -21 due to Camp Greenville field trip. Letters have already been sent home with your child. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you need more information. 7th grade is in need of 2 additional chaperones for our Camp Greenville trip. Cost is $140.00. Email [email protected] if interested. </p><p>6th Grade Update To qualify for the 6th grade skating trip at the end of the year, students cannot be tardy on any PASS testing day (including March 19th and 20th).</p><p>Sixth grade celebrated Pi Day on Thursday, 3/14. Students ate pi snacks (circles) and created Pi art in math class!</p>
