
<p>Title: Lebanon: Angelina Jolie Meets Syrian Refugees Location: Majdal Anjar, Bar Elias, Lebanon</p><p>Date: September 12, 2012</p><p>Language: Nat/English/Arabic</p><p>Source: Scott Goddard/Edith Champagne</p><p>Date shoot: September 12, 2012</p><p>Duration: 5:05</p><p>Format: 16:9 </p><p>The second day of UNHCR’s Special Envoy, Angelina Jolie’s visit to the region started with a visit to the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon.</p><p>She met a family who arrived three months ago.</p><p>A mother, son, daughter, daughter-in-law and eight children…all risked entering through an unofficial border…..all had to escape shooting and bombing in the Homs region. </p><p>They’re living with a local host family….for the first few months, it was free, but now they have been asked to pay rent… when they can. </p><p>SOUNDBITE: Refugee mother - “The children keep asking about their father…we keep inventing things to tell them.”</p><p>In a nearby house, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres, met another family. The father, who wants his identity protected talked of leaving with nothing …and struggling to make ends meet.</p><p>CLIP Antonio Guterres High Commissioner for Refugees</p><p>"We are trying to find more resources to do better. We also hope that peace will come back and you will regain your normal life. To be a refugee is always a terrible thing.”</p><p>There are 40,000 registered Syrian refugees in Lebanon. All are living with families…or in rented homes….or collective shelters. </p><p>This family fled when their daughter was shot while shopping for her upcoming wedding. Her stomach was pierced….the shooting went on for twenty minutes, according to her fiancé Ababah.</p><p>SOUND BITE: Ababah –“ After she was shot, after the incident, we were coming to our home to get our stuff and go to somewhere safe.” </p><p>She survived …but only just.</p><p>SOUNDBITE Angelina Jolie : “Your sister was shot ..she got shot. She is your sister. She got shot was that very scary? – </p><p>Little girl: Yes.”</p><p>Angelina Jolie “She is ok now…”</p><p>Little girl: Yes (please check translation) </p><p>To manage the ongoing new arrivals, UNHCR and the government are identifying potential collective centers, rehabilitating houses and offering cash grants. The final stop of Ms. Jolie’s visit was a school.
