You may not use World War II, this just makes it too easy and obvious for many nations.

Points to consider:  You must write about the significance of this event to your nations history and use specific details to support your position directly. (Why is your selection such an important event itself?)  You also must consider other important events in your country’s history in the same time period, 1900 to the present, and compare them with your selection in order to justify your position. (Why is your event more important than other possible selections?)  Depending on your nation, you may need to explain the impact of your event upon global history. (Is your event so important that it has a broader international impact?)

B) Contemporary or Human Rights issue – Select a contemporary issue or current human rights problem somewhere in the world today. Research it and explain why it is a significant global issue or human rights problem. Your paper will be a call to action, explaining why this is a serious concern for the global community, and what nations can do to try to intervene and address the problem. You also should explain what specifically can be done to try to fix the problem, and which nations are best suited to appropriately deal with it.

Points to consider:  Present the human rights or contemporary issue and describe what and where it is.  Illustrate both the national and international impact of the issue you are presenting. What other problems does it cause? (immigration, disease, etc.)  Why must this human rights abuse be stopped above others? Why is this global issue so significant that it must be addressed now? Why does it deserve our attention first?  Who or what should address this issue to stop it? Why are they the ones that should try to fix it? (governments, international organizations, individuals, etc.)

Grading: A topic is due: Final drafts along with a bibliography are due on:

You may turn in as many drafts as you would like up to the due date.
