<p> Press Release 08-130</p><p>Schmitz Cargobull AG Telematics for the next generation Now Cargobull Telematics is even more state-of-the-art</p><p>Hanover, September 2008 – As partner to the largest trailer hire companies and outfitter of the largest transport fleets, Cargobull Telematics (CBT) currently has some 8,000 telematics systems in use throughout Europe. Current legislation, for example in the refrigerated transport sector, requires more transparency based on data provision. Ever more hauliers are deciding on a networking of truck and trailer telematics in conjunction with their own logistics software. Key to the success, is uniform flat-rates for Europe-wide use of the telematics service - which Cargobull Telematics is able to achieve using appropriate framework agreements with cooperation partners. CBT is also developing electronic skills and competence within the group. A new telematics hardware generation makes the units more compact while being even more powerful. In the forthcoming generation, components, such as aerials and batteries, will be integrated in the units. The reduction in the dimensions of the electronics and batteries means that the telematics are more easily attached. Intelligent device software increases the performance and, moreover, simplifies fitting in the factory as well as retrofitting. The debut of the new generation is at the IAA 2008 in Hanover.</p><p>The new sensor system is based on LIN BUS technology. Alongside the internal aerials and electronic door contact switches, the complex wiring harnesses, which have been fitted up until now, are being replaced by a LIN BUS system for connecting actuators and sensors. The battery is a high performance lithium-ion battery instead of the to be discontinued lead- acid battery. In the future it will be clipped within the housing. In addition, Schmitz Cargobull is changing over to its own plug housing design. </p><p>With these new improvements, Cargobull Telematics is optimally equipped for the requirements of future markets. No one is arguing that the trailer telematics market won’t continue to grow. Increasing traffic density requires more transparency. Stringent legislation requires system support, trailer pooling and drop n’ swap routes must be controlled, while loads must be continuously monitored without any montioring gaps. A medium-term requirement is the networking of truck and trailer telematics. 08-130</p><p>Cargobull telematics ensures the reliability and quality of loading and equipment, because the correct information can be called up by the decision maker just when it is needed. The advantages of trailer telematics are to hand: for new vehicles, factory fitting is trouble-free. For second-hand and other manufacturer trailers, CBT provides a retrofit option. The expansion of of the telematics competence within the Schmitz Cargobull service network ensures the service and increases availability. The same device is used for all different vehicle types. Alongside classical functions, such as locating or alarm functions, Cargobull Telematics also offers a range of advanced services. These include monitoring of door openings, saving of service and maintenance data or even security agency data for driver and trailer protection right up to intervention on site in the event of damage.
