The activity focuses on two aspects of the work – the historical and social context in which the work was composed, and the elements and features found in the work.The activity consists of two tasks, both of which must be completed.Task 1: Creation of a Wall Chart. This task requires students to demonstrate knowledge of  Why, when and where the work was written  Penderecki’s other works and achievements  Penderecki’s place in musical historyTask 2: Elements and Features of the Music. This task requires students to demonstrate an knowledge of how Penderecki has used elements within the work to communicate ideas and feelings in selected quoted statements. Conditions: Task 1 requires classroom time and homework time. Opportunity should be given for students to access information. Task 2 requires classroom time only.
